Pulled off a fabulous save from Mattia Destro’s penalty and initiated assorted Azzurri attacks. Couldn’t be blamed for the goal as despite blocking a Ladislav Krejci strike from point-blank range, Vasilis Torosidis headed home the rebound. Commanding.

Napoli an advert for Serie A

When Maurizio Sarri’s side are on form, they play some of the best football in Europe, writes Gaby McKay.

During the first half of their win over Milan last week, Napoli were quite simply brilliant. Lorenzo Insigne and Jose Callejon put Maurizio Sarri’s men 2-0 up after just 10 minutes, and could have been four goals to the good before Juraj Kucka got one back for the home side.

Insigne's turn to shine

Napoli silenced Milan and Lorenzo Insigne came to life at San Siro again, writes Chloe Beresford.

San Siro really does bring the best out of Lorenzo Insigne. He bagged a brace here in last season’s 4-0 victory and his father got a tattoo of the moment he wheeled away in celebration under the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza lights. This time round it was ‘only’ the one goal, but marked an even more important victory.

After first being overshadowed by the lightning start to the campaign for new signing Arkadiusz Milik, headlines were then stolen by Dries Mertens after he scored an unbelievable eight goals in three matches.

Napoli out of tune

On a cold night in Naples, Maurizio Sarri’s players were all dancing to the beat of their own drum, notes Gaby McKay.

The difficult second album. A band or an artist makes their statement, all the things they ever wanted to say, and then they have to follow it up. Where do you go when you’re already at the top? That appears to be the question facing Maurizio Sarri and Napoli this season.

Sarri’s humble beginnings are well-known, the Coach having gone from working in a bank to taking charge of one of Serie A’s biggest teams. Last season felt like a watershed moment for the tactician, where finally he was allowed to put his ideas to the test on the biggest stage of all.

The 21-year-old would also provide an insurance policy should ongoing contract negotiations with Lorenzo Insigne fail to progress.

Napoli give Insigne ultimatum?

Lorenzo Insigne is reportedly no closer to a Napoli renewal, as he’s been given a take-it-or-leave-it offer.

The playmaker was thought to be close to signing an extension with his boyhood club, but so far there has been no announcement.

Jose Callejon and Marek Hamsik have both committed their futures to the club, and it’s expected Dries Mertens will do the same in the coming days.

Insigne, however, has been offered a new deal worth €2.5m per season, with President Aurelio De Laurentiis telling him he can take it or leave it.
