'Insigne gained Euro experience'

Lorenzo Insigne's agent believes the player takes home 'a luggage full of experience' from Euro 2016.

The small Napoli striker was given scant playing time at the tournament, but he did not disappoint when asked to take the penalty in the quarter-finals against Germany.

“He struck me as a bit hesitant, but when I spoke to him he told me he was certain he'd score it,” his agent Fabio Andreotti told Radio CRC.

“Lorenzo repaid Conte of the trust he's been given. I can say that much for him.

Giak: 'Conte-Ventura perfect link'

Emanuele Giaccherini bids farewell to Italy Coach and 'champion' Antonio Conte, but welcomes Giampero Ventura: 'They are perfectly linked.'

The Sunderland midfielder was among the Azzurri's most prominent and surprising players at Euro 2016, keeping a very high standard in performances all the way until his team crashed out against Germany in the quarter-finals.

Azzurri Ultra: United we stand

Italy are showing more unity than even in 2006, exemplified by Lorenzo Insigne, argues Richard Hall.

He has played hardly any football in the tournament and yet when he did, he looked lively on both his substitute appearances. He created a goal for Graziano Pellè against Spain and nearly got one of his own against the Republic of Ireland. Lorenzo Insigne could feel quite perturbed that he hasn’t been used more throughout the tournament.

“We are united as a group. We are all starters,” he told the Press. “When I’m called upon, I’ll do my best.” This is a feeling that resonates through the squad.

Insigne: ‘We’re all starters’

Italy’s Lorenzo Insigne feels no resentment over a lack of playing time - “we’re all starters”.

The Napoli star has made two substitute appearances at Euro 2016 so far, and created the second goal against Spain with a wonderful cross-field pass.

“We’re a united group, we’re all starters,” Insigne insisted in a Press conference.

“We’re giving our best for this shirt and the people around us. Right now it’s easy, we’re happy because we’re giving a lot.

Eder, Insigne key for Spain

Italy Coach Antonio Conte has selected Eder as key for his tactics against Spain, whilst Lorenzo Insigne could have a special role.

The two football giants face each other today at 17:00 UK time in a match that many believe should have been a final.

With the starting XI almost completely certain, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that striker Eder will have one of the key roles in attempting to win the match.

Schillaci: 'Insigne strong, but...'

Italy veteran Toto Schillaci says Lorenzo Insigne is 'fantastic', but not likely to play as he doesn't fit in Antonio Conte's system.

The diminutive striker who led the Azzurri to the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup may recognise himself in the equally featherweight Napoli striker.

Insigne only played a few minutes at the end of Italy-Ireland in Euro 2016 so far, but apparently he is already one of the team's most beloved individuals.

What did Conte learn from Irish defeat?

Italy suffered their first defeat at Euro 2016, falling 1-0 to Republic of Ireland. Luca Cetta wonders what Antonio Conte got out of a match which included many new faces.

Given the circumstances on Tuesday evening, you would be forgiven for forgetting there was another group match to be played. Even the morning newspapers did, focusing more on the fact Italy had been dealt a tough Round of 16 draw against defending champions Spain than the upcoming encounter with Republic of Ireland.

Spanish Press deny Barca-Insigne

Spanish reports deny claims by Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne's agent that he is being targeted by Barcelona.

The 25-year-old, currently representing Italy at Euro 2016, had been touted for a move to the Catalan club by some elements in the Neapolitan media.

The reports followed after statements by the player's agent, who said a salary increase was expected if the interest of foreign clubs such as Barcelona were to be kept at bay.

Versatility key against Sweden

Italy vs Sweden has all the hallmarks a low-scoring draw, argues Andrea Tallarita, but Coach Antonio Conte still has ways to prevent that.

There appears to be a healthy cautiousness amid fans ahead of Italy's second Euro 2016 game, which will be played against Sweden. Some of it is a near-superstitious worry that success rarely repeats itself. Others are concerned that the team could already be showing signs of tiredness. Arrigo Sacchi stated in yesterday's Gazzetta dello Sport editorial that Italy should beware of “psycho-physical tiredness, and the combination of stress and exceptional exertion”.
