Sarri: ‘Higuain best in the world’

Napoli Coach Maurizio Sarri calls Gonzalo Higuain “the best striker in the world” and lauds his “special group”.

The Argentine forward has been on fire this season, with 16 goals and two assists in his 17 Serie A games so far.

“He’s sensitive, and up until now has projected an image which isn’t in line with his character,” Sarri explained in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

Napoli can’t rely on Higuain alone

Napoli have been prolific all season long and are a true Scudetto contender. But they have been relying on Gonzalo Higuain for goals too much, writes Vincent Van Genechten.

Only Fiorentina (31) and Roma (30) have scored more goals this season than Napoli: 28. Maurizio Sarri’s offensive tactics have transformed the Partenopei in possibly the most efficient and deadly team in Serie A. Lorenzo Insigne has been better than ever as Napoli’s playmaker and their midfield with Marek Hamsik, Allan and Jorginho has been performing.

Insigne: ‘Italy? Focused on Napoli’

Lorenzo Insigne “would be very happy” to get an Italy call for Euro 2016, but if not he’ll focus on Napoli.

The playmaker was dropped from Azzurri CT Antonio Conte’s most recent squad, with suggestions he was being punished for pulling out of a previous squad with injury.

“The national team? Let’s hope so,” Insigne told Rai.

“I’m working very hard with Napoli, and I’d be very happy, but if the call doesn’t come I’ll continue to work, thinking about Napoli.”

Insigne: 'I'll be Napoli's Totti'

“The Scudetto race is wide open and Juventus are about to get back into the leading group. Napoli are there too and we’re second to nobody, so with Roma it’s a head-to-head for the title,” Insigne told La Repubblica newspaper.

Agent: ‘Italy must call Insigne’

Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne’s agent says his client going to Euro 2016 with Italy “should be inevitable”.

The 24-year-old has been in fine form for the Partenopei this season, with eight goals and six assists in 18 appearances.

“The national team? His only thought is having a great season with Napoli,” Antonio Ottaiano explained to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“Then he’ll have his chance to prove to [Italy CT Antonio] Conte that he should be there. He’s calm, the two things go hand-in-hand.
