Atalanta duo score for Colombia

Atalanta stars dominated the World Cup qualifiers last night, as Luis Muriel scored two and Duvan Zapata got the other for Colombia against Venezuela.

The pair are often seen as alternatives for the same role in Bergamo, but have also played together upfront with support from Argentina international Papu Gomez.

Muriel took centre stage in the 3-0 victory over Venezuela, bagging a brace for Colombia.

Duvan Zapata added another to round out the scoreline.

Suarez: 'Strongest interest from Lazio'

Watford-owned Luis Suarez confirms “the strongest interest is from Lazio, but also Atletico Madrid and Valencia” once his Real Zaragoza loan ends.

The 22-year-old Colombian centre-forward came up through the Watford youth academy and had loan spells at Valladolid, Gimnastic and currently Real Zaragoza.

He has scored 17 goals in 29 La Liga 2 games this season, along with three assists, earning him links with Napoli too.

Cuadrado: 'We are calm'

Juan Cuadrado has revealed that Juventus are “calm”, as Daniele Rugani and Blaise Matuidi are “much better” after testing positive for the COVID-19.

Agudelo: 'Viola an easy decision'

Kevin Agudelo has revealed it was “not difficult” to accept an offer from Fiorentina and said he has arrived at a club “with a desire to do great things”.

The Viola picked up the 21-year-old Colombian moved from Genoa on a loan deal with an obligation to make the move permanent in 2021 and now he is ready to impress at the Artemio Franchi.

“It was not a difficult decision,” he said at a press conference. “I knew that Fiorentina was a great club and with a desire to grown and do great things.

Genoa in talks for Quintero

Genoa are in negotiations with River Plate for Colombia international Juan Fernando Quintero, claim Sky Sport Italia.

According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, talks are progressing for the 27-year-old trequartista.

It is expected to be a loan deal with option to buy at the end of the season.

He has a €30m release clause in his contract and returned from a loan spell at FC Porto a year ago.

This would be a return to Serie A for Quintero, who played for Pescara in 2012-13.

Official: Atalanta buy Duvan Zapata

Atalanta have announced that they’ve taken up their option to sign Duvan Zapata on a permanent basis from Sampdoria for a total €26m.

The Colombia international had joined Atalanta on a two-year loan in the summer of 2018 at a cost of €14m with option to buy for another €12m.

He scored 35 goals in 49 competitive games, despite missing the last three months with a serious thigh injury.

This morning, La Dea announced they had activated the option and would be making him a permanent signing.

Cuadrado at Juventus until 2022

Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado has renewed his contract with Juventus on a contract worth €4m a year until 2022, according to reports.

The Bianconeri ace has been rewarded for his performances since joining the club in 2015 and extended his previous deal by adding two more years at the Allianz Stadium.

His agent was spotted entering the Juventus HQ this morning and an announcement is believed to be imminent.

Gasp furious with Zapata injury

A furious Gian Piero Gasperini has called for an end to the ‘destruction’ of international breaks after Atalanta lost Duvan Zapata for several weeks.

Zapata suffered a thigh injury during Colombia’s dead-rubber friendly with Chile last week, and Gasperini slammed the “useless” nature of such fixtures.

“I reacted with an expletive...” the Coach told Corriere dello Sport.

Alexis Sanchez out for two months?

There are reports Alexis Sanchez may be out for over two months after the Inter striker suffered an ankle injury playing for Chile.

The 30-year-old is only on loan from Manchester United and made four appearances for the Nerazzurri this season, scoring one goal.

However, he was on the end of a heavy challenge from Juventus and Colombia wide man Juan Cuadrado during a 0-0 draw.

Hamstring strain for Medel

Bologna midfielder Gary Medel has been sent home early from international duty with Chile after suffering a hamstring strain.

The player took part in last night’s 0-0 draw with Colombia, but pulled out in the closing stages clutching the back of his thigh.

A statement from the Chilean football federation confirmed Medel has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury in the right leg.

He is therefore returning to Italy and the Stadio Dall’Ara to begin a personalised recovery programme with Bologna.
