Bernardeschi: Sarri's right winger

Juventus’ Federico Bernardeschi says he is ready to shed his jack-of-all-trades reputation and become Maurizio Sarri’s right winger.

Bernardeschi has been played in a variety of positions throughout his career but started on the right of an attacking trident in Sarri’s first game as Juve boss on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur.

“Sarri sees me as a right winger,” he told reporters.

Serie A friendly round-up

Lazio and Atalanta posted big wins in Sunday’s Serie A friendlies, while Sassuolo put 12 past Vipiteno with a little help from Francesco Caputo.

Juventus got the day’s friendly action under way with a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the International Champions Cup.

Later on, Felipe Caicedo bagged a brace and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic got on the scoresheet as Lazio beat Serie C side Triestina 5-2.

Serie A & Coppa 19-20 dates

The dates for the 2019-20 Serie A and Coppa Italia campaign have been confirmed.

The Serie A season will start on August 24 and end on May 24, while the Coppa Italia for top-flight clubs kicks off on August 11, finishing on May 13.

There will be four international breaks, on the weekends of September 8, October 12, November 17 and March 29, and three midweek rounds on September 25, October 30 and April 22.

Finally, he winter break will take place between December 29 and January 5.

Serie A friendly round-up

Lazio, Torino and Verona posted double-digits in preseason friendlies on Saturday, while Inter won on Antonio Conte’s unofficial debut.

Lazio thrashed Auronzo 18-0 at the home of their preseason camp, with Joaquin Correa and Luis Alberto bagging hat-tricks.

A group of Aquile fans also showed their support for Scudetto winner Sinisa Mihajlovic with the banner ‘Daje Sinisa’ following his leukaemia diagnosis.

Meanwhile, Torino got their Europa League qualifying preparations off to the perfect start with a 15-0 demolition of Merano.

Serie C side Bari have pulled off a coup by bringing in Pierluigi Frattini and Manuel Scavone from Parma.

Donnarumma ready for Milan

Gianluigi Donnarumma says he is ready to start the new season with Milan and use the disappointment of last term as ‘an extra push’.

Milan beat SPAL 3-2 in their final game of the previous campaign, but Donnarumma went off with injury and the Rossoneri ultimately failed to qualify for the Champions League.

That led some to speculate the goalkeeper had played his last match for the Diavolo, but he has now assured that his mind is set on staying put.

Lecce present Stadio Via del Mare plans

Lecce have presented plans to restructure the Stadio Via del Mare following their promotion to Serie A.

President Saverio Sticchi Damiani held a press conference today, accompanied by director general Giuseppe Mercandante.

“The maintenance work is continuing apace and we’ll be ready for the start of the season,” said Sticchi Damiani.

“The cost of the operation is all taken on by the club and, as soon as possible, we’ll ask for a meeting with the local council to discuss a joint administration of the arena.

Italy & France fight for Ounas

Nice and Olympique Marseille are reportedly battling several Serie A sides to sign Napoli winger Adam Ounas.

According to France Football, the two clubs are ‘particularly interested’ in Ounas and have already made enquiries for Ounas.

The publication believes the former are ‘better equipped’ to bring in the 22-year-old as they have ‘more financial leeway’.

However, it is warned Parma, Atalanta, Sassuolo and even Fiorentina are all looking to take the former Bordeaux attacker on loan.

Confirmed: Serie A 19-20 referees

The referees for the 2019-20 Serie A campaign are confirmed, with Luca Banti and Paolo Mazzoleni dropped due to their age.

Banti [pictured] and Mazzoleni have reached the end of their officiating careers in Italy as both men turned 45 last season.

The former was criticised for his performance during May’s Coppa Italia Final between Atalanta and Lazio.
