Gomez: 'Atalanta painful for City'

Atalanta captain Alejandro Gomez claims Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola told him “facing us was like going to the dentist” last night.

Atalanta came back from behind to draw 1-1 with City in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, in a historic result for Gomez’s side at San Siro.

“He told me facing us was like going to the dentist,” he told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

Gomez: 'Atalanta try to surprise City'

Atalanta captain Papu Gomez assures they “will try to surprise” Manchester City and get their first Champions League point.

The Orobici are in the tournament for the first time in their history, but suffered a 4-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb and were unlucky to lose 2-1 to a counter-attack in the final seconds of their home match with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Their next test is the biggest of them all, visiting Manchester City on October 22.

'Skrtel sad at Atalanta, Muriel...'

Atalanta President Antonio Percassi claims Martin Skrtel was sad “because his wife didn’t want to come here” and “hopes” Luis Muriel faces Dinamo Zagreb.

Skrtel left Atalanta earlier in the month without playing an official game for Atalanta, seemingly because he did not fit into Gian Piero Gasperini’s back-three system.

However, Percassi has now given a different version of events.

“He was a good lad, but he was sad,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Atalanta not ready for Champions League

La Dea might’ve kept almost all their best players, but Vilizar Yakimov thinks Atalanta are unprepared for the challenges that lie ahead.

With great power comes great responsibility. Atalanta have been considered dark horses ever since Gian Piero Gasperini’s arrival in 2016, but their heroics from last season mean that La Dea quickly outgrew that tag and must accept their new status.

Muriel the man for Atalanta

With the arrival of Champions League football pushing Atalanta to bolster their squad, Massimo Nuzzo believes Luis Muriel is the ideal reinforcement.

The usual expectations are no longer enough for Atalanta, as their first ever foray into the Champions League requires more star power than simply hanging on to their talents. Luis Muriel cost €18m plus bonuses to purchase from Sevilla following his six-month loan stint at Fiorentina, but how will he fit into Gian Piero Gasperini’s side?
