Gomez: 'Take Atalanta into Europe'

Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez wants to “take Atalanta back into Europe” and laughs about his pranks with strike partner Andrea Petagna.

The Orobici are in an impressive sixth place in the Serie A table and their season has moved beyond mere safety.

“It’s wonderful to feel the affection of the fans and now our objectives have changed,” Gomez told ItaSportPress during a signing.

Milan plan Gomez move

Milan reportedly met with the agent of Atalanta’s Papu Gomez, but it’s unlikely he’ll arrive in January.

The winger has been linked with a move away from the Orobici, with Roma also reported to be interested.

According to today’s Gazzetta dello Sport, Rossoneri CEO Adriano Galliani met with the player’s agent on Monday, as he seeks a deal for the summer.

Galliani must now talk with the incoming Chinese owners to understand if the funds will be available to get a deal done.

Serie A Week 19: Did You Know?

Juventus break their own all-time Serie A record, Roma curse for Genoa and goal droughts grind to a halt in Susy Campanale's stats round-up.

Juventus set a new all-time Serie A record of 26 consecutive home victories. It allowed the club to beat its own previous best of 25, achieved from August 2013 to November 2014. It is the third-longest streak in Europe’s top five leagues after St-Etienne on 28 (1974-75) and Barcelona on 39 (1958-60).

Paulo Dybala has successfully converted all 11 of his Serie A penalties. Juve have eight goals in the opening 15 minutes of play, more than any other side, and Gonzalo Higuain scored half of them. Pipita has four braces this term, fewer only than Mauro Icardi on six.

Rossoneri reinforcements

Milan have won their first silverware since 2011, but Susy Campanale warns their squad is painfully thin for a full season.

Vincenzo Montella has already written his name in the Milan history books by lifting the Italian Super Cup in Doha, beating Juventus on penalties following a 1-1 draw. It is meant to be the last hurrah for President Silvio Berlusconi before the sale to Chinese investors Sino-Europe Sports finally goes through. The repeated postponements mean there will be no funds available for the January transfer window, leaving the Rossoneri wedged between ambition and reality.

Roma in for Gomez, but…

It’s reported Roma are interested in Atalanta’s Papu Gomez, but he’d cost at least €15m.

The Giallorossi will lose Mohamed Salah to the Africa Cup of Nations in January, and are looking for a replacement on the wing.

According to Sky, Gomez has been identified as a possible solution, as he’s provided three goals and three assists so far this season.

It’s reported that there have already been informal talks between the clubs, but at the moment it’s a difficult deal for the Lupi.

Milan want Badelj and Gomez

Milan’s top targets for the January transfer window are Milan Badelj and Alejandro Gomez, according to reports.

The Rossoneri are just four points off the top of Serie A, an achievement made all the more impressive by the fact they didn’t invest much in the summer.

While the takeover by Chinese consortium Sino-Europe Sports looks set to be delayed, an expected deposit of €100m could give room for manoeuvre in January.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Coach Vincenzo Montella has asked specifically for Badelj and Gomez.

Serie A Team of Week 13

After another exciting weekend of Serie A football, Dave Taylor selects his best XI from Week 13.

Ciprian Tatarusanu [Fiorentina]

Had to be alert from the start as he blocked a Massimo Maccarone shot and kept it up throughout. In the second half he also blocked shots from Maccarone again and a Riccardo Saponara strike. All in all a good day at the office. Steady.

Wallace [Lazio]
