Gomez: ‘EL the real goal’

Atalanta captain Papu Gomez dismisses Champions League talk - “the Europa League is the real goal”.

The Orobici beat Napoli at San Paolo on Saturday night, a result which leaves them just three points behind the Partenopei, who occupy the final Champions League place.

“We’re a young team, we’re happy and you can see that on the pitch,” Gomez told Sky.

Gomez: 'Atalanta on Inter level'

Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez said Atalanta’s game went to plan conquering Napoli at the San Paolo and they are “on the same level as Inter, Lazio and Milan.”

Mattia Caldara bagged a brace as the Orobici earned a 2-0 victory in Naples, despite seeing Franck Kessie sent off.

“We prepared very well during the week and watched the video of the first game we played this season, so knew how to face these champions,” Gomez told Sky Sport Italia.

Petagna makes Atalanta Euro pledge

Atalanta striker Andrea Petagna believes they can beat Napoli today and pledges to bleach his hair if they qualify for Europe.

Gomez: ‘Atalanta believe in Europe’

Papu Gomez declares Atalanta “believe in Europe” but if so “you have to sign eight or nine players”.

The Orobici have been the surprise of the season, and currently sit fourth in Serie A, only six points off a Champions League place.

“We believe in Europe,” Gomez admitted to Gazzetta della Sport.

“Even with just three points in three games we’re still in there. The most difficult [game] is this one, with Napoli at San Paolo.

‘Kessie has been sold to Roma’

Alejandro Gomez believes Atalanta teammate Franck Kessié has been “sold to Roma”.

The midfielder was heavily linked with the Giallorossi in the January transfer window, but ultimately a deal couldn’t be done.

Gomez: ‘Waiting for a big club’

Atalanta captain Alejandro Gomez admits he’s “waiting for an important offer” with “interest from Roma and Milan”.

The attacking midfielder has caught the eye with his performances for the Orobici this season, and admits he’ll probably move on in the summer.
