Argentina: Icardi out, Higuain in

Argentina have left Mauro Icardi and Paulo Dybala out of their squad to face Italy and Spain, but Gonzalo Higuain is back.

Icardi appeared to have displaced Higuain as Argentina’s No 9, judging by the start of Jorge Sampaoli’s reign, but the recent good form of the Juventus forward has earned him a recall.

Coppa: Buffon keeps Atalanta quiet

Gonzalo Higuain scored a precious away goal, but 40-year-old Gigi Buffon was the Juventus hero with a penalty save to beat Atalanta 1-0 in the Coppa Italia Semi-Final.

The first leg was taken very seriously indeed, as both sides fielded practically a full-strength XI. Buffon made his comeback after several weeks out with a calf injury, making his first appearance as a 40-year-old and the first in the Coppa since December 2012, but Juan Cuadrado, Paulo Dybala and Benedikt Howedes were injured. The hosts missed Leonardo Spinazzola and rested Mattia Caldara.

Plenty to love about Papu

Beyond his dance moves, goals and vibrant personality, Papu Gomez has been a beacon of loyalty to Bergamo, writes Matthew Santangelo.

Prior to arriving in Bergamo in 2014, Alejandro Gomez spent several successful years in Sicily with Catania, who employed plenty of Argentine internationals to form one of the top flight’s most unique and exciting sides.

After leaving southern Italy for a cup of coffee in Ukraine with Metalist Kharkiv for the 2013-14 season, the diminutive attacker couldn’t resist the urge to make a return to old stomping grounds in Italy, this time settling in Bergamo to play for Atalanta.
