Gasperini: 'Atalanta take the blame'

Gian Piero Gasperini concedes the 2-1 defeat to Udinese “will weigh” on Atalanta. “We did too many things to avoid winning.”

Jasmin Kurtic had given the visitors the lead, but a Rodrigo De Paul penalty and Antonin Barak solo effort turned it around.

Albano Bizzarri then parried a late Bryan Cristante penalty.

“This defeat will weigh on us,” confessed the Coach to Rai Sport.

Higuain still out for Argentina

Argentina have again overlooked Gonzalo Higuain for their squad to face Russia on November 10 but call up five Serie A players, including Mauro Icardi.

Higuain’s poor form for Juve since the start of the season keeps him out of Argentina’s squad, but Coach Jorge Sampaoli assured the striker was in his thoughts for the World Cup next summer.

“Gonzalo’s a player I know well, he has nothing to prove,” he said at a Press conference.

Gasperini: 'Atalanta must kill off games'

Gian Piero Gasperini complained that Atalanta “must learn to kill off games” after running a few Europa League risks with Apollon Limassol.

They consolidated their status at the top of the group with a 3-1 victory over Apollon Limassol, though Lyon won 2-1 at sorry Everton.

“I liked many things about the game, but we also have to be more determined and clinical with our finishing,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Argentina drop Dybala and Icardi

Argentina again seem set to drop Paulo Dybala and Mauro Icardi, but start Milan midfielder Lucas Biglia against Ecuador.

This is going to be an absolutely decisive match, because the Seleccion risk missing out on the World Cup for the first time since 1970.

Hiring Jorge Sampaoli has so far failed to give them the necessary boost, as after a 0-0 draw with Peru, they are only sixth in the South American qualifying table.

A victory in Ecuador would secure qualification, but it’s a very tough test and played at altitude.

Argentina snub Higuain, call Papu

Gonzalo Higuain has again been left out of the Argentina squad, but Paulo Dybala, Papu Gomez and Mauro Icardi make it.

The South Americans will face Peru in a crunch match for 2018 World Cup qualifying, but Coach Jorge Sampaoli has once more snubbed Pipita.

The Juventus striker was dropped for two games by Max Allegri before breaking his goal drought, so this week scored against both Olympiakos and Atalanta.

Despite a fractured rib for Sergio Aguero ruling out the Manchester City striker, there is still no room for Higuain.

“I think there are few teams able to cause Juventus this much trouble and we are among them,” Papu told Mediaset Premium.
