Gomez: ‘No Atalanta promises…’

Alejandro Gomez says Atalanta “is like my home” but warns “I’ve always said I want to play for big clubs…”

The Orobici captain has been linked with Lazio this summer, having helped his side qualify for the Europa League in the past two seasons.

“When you have a good season it’s normal that there will be offers,” Gomez told Sky.

“They’ll be dealt with by the club and my agent, we’ll see what happens because there’s still a long way to go.

Lazio ask after Freuler too

Lazio are not just in talks with Atalanta for Papu Gomez, but also Swiss midfielder Remo Freuler.

According to Calcioatalanta.it, the negotiations for Gomez have been broadened to include other players in the Orobici squad.

The main target is Switzerland international Freuler, who is currently at the World Cup.

He joined Atalanta in January 2016 for just €1.5m, yet the Bergamo boys want in the region of €20m to let him leave.

Lazio close on Papu Gomez

Lazio are in negotiations with Atalanta for Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez, having already agreed terms with the Argentina international.

According to several sources, including Sky Sport Italia, the offer on the table is currently €10m, whereas Atalanta are holding out for €15m.

It is likely they will eventually meet in the middle and conclude a deal worth €12-13m.

Papu and his agent Giuseppe Riso were at lunch with Atalanta striker Andrea Petagna – also linked with Lazio – today in Milan.

Biglia hits out at Papu Gomez

Lucas Biglia hit out at Atalanta captain and Argentina teammate Papu Gomez for a crunching tackle and lack of apology.

The Milan midfielder thought his World Cup participation was at risk after recovering in record time from a back fracture only to then be clattered from behind by Gomez during a 1-1 draw with Atalanta.

“During that incident, I was perfectly aware he was behind me, which is why I got back up infuriated,” Biglia told Argentine paper Ole.

Biglia was making his comeback from a back injury during Milan’s 1-1 draw with Atalanta last weekend, yet the midfielder risked suffering a relapse of that problem after Gomez had gone into him with his knee, although the forward has since apologised.

Gomez apologises to Biglia

Atalanta captain Papu Gomez offers his “sincerest apologies” to Milan’s Lucas Biglia - “I never meant to hurt him”.

The Argentinian international kneed his compatriot in the back during yesterday’s match between the two sides, with the midfielder having to go off injured.

“My sincerest apologies to Lucas Biglia,” Gomez wrote on his Instagram account.

“I wish him a speedy recovery, I never meant to hurt him. I’m very sorry for what happened.”

Report: Biglia fit for World Cup

Lucas Biglia will reportedly be fit for Argentina’s World Cup campaign, despite risking another back injury during Milan’s 1-1 draw with Atalanta.

Biglia came off worse for wear after a clash with Argentina teammate Alejandro Gomez, prompting fears he had aggravated the vertebrae he had previously fractured.

However, TyC Sports claims scan showed the problem would not keep him out of the Russian showpiece and consequently ‘will be in Jorge Sampaoli’s 23-man squad’ on June 4.
