‘Gigio showed serious lack of respect’

Gianluigi Donnarumma is accused of showing the Italian education system “a serious lack of respect” after he failed to take his graduation exams.

Donnarumma was excused from his exams at accountancy institute Leonardo da Vinci di Vigevano due to the European Under-21 Championship but had them rearranged for after the tournament.

However, the President of the Examination Commission now claims the Milan teenager chose to go on holiday to Ibiza rather than fulfil his part of the deal.

‘Italy-Germany an orchestrated farce’

The Slovakian Prime Minister has called for a UEFA investigation into Italy’s 1-0 win against Germany, branding the game “an orchestrated farce”.

The result ensured Italy and Germany both qualified for the European Under-21 Championship semi-finals, at the expense of Slovakia, who consequently ranked second among the teams that finished second in their respective groups.

No Spain-Italy favourites

Despite Spain running away with their European Under-21 Championship group, Daryl Hammond believes Italy have an equal chance in Tuesday’s semi-final.

Bernardeschi backs under-fire Di Biagio

Federico Bernardeschi insists “there’s a talented generation” of Azzurrini and is backing Under-21 boss Luigi Di Biagio to do “very well”, despite the criticism.

Milan fans explain Donnarumma stunt

The Milan fans that threw fake dollar bills at Gianluigi Donnarumma have justified their actions, claiming the goalkeeper committed “a serious offence”.

Members of Milan Club Poland interrupted Italy’s 2-0 win against Denmark in the European Under-21 Championship on Sunday with their stunt, in light of the youngster’s refusal to sign a new contract at San Siro.

Napoli push for Cragno

Napoli are offering €5m plus Luigi Sepe for Italy Under-21 goalkeeper Alessio Cragno, but Cagliari want €10m.

The Partenopei are seeking both a long-term replacement for Pepe Reina and maybe even a new young shot-stopper for next season too.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli have put forward a proposal worth €5m plus performance-related bonuses.

However, Cagliari want at least €10m for Cragno as he prepares to fly out with the Italy squad for the European Under-21 Championship.

Gigio to play at U21 Championship?

Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma could reportedly accept a call-up to the Italy squad for the European Under-21 Championship later this month.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Donnarumma has until Monday afternoon to respond to Luigi Di Biagio’s call as the Coach must announce his final, 23-man squad 24 hours later.

The 18-year-old has the choice of going to Poland with Italy U21s and almost certainly giving up his school exams or vice versa.

Pinamonti in Italy U21 squad

Italy Under-21 boss Luigi Di Biagio has called up 27 players for a pre-European U21 Championship training camp, among them Inter’s Andrea Pinamonti.

Pinamonti extended his contract with Inter last week, and the 18-year-old striker has more reason to celebrate as he joins the likes of Serie A trio Antonio Barreca, Marco Benassi and Manuel Locatelli on Azzurrini duty for th efirst time.

The camp will be held over two days, between next Monday and Wednesday, and joined by several players called up for the senior-team friendly against San Marino.

Di Biagio hails Italy response

Luigi Di Biagio hailed his Italy Under-21s for a “very good response” during Monday’s 2-1 defeat to Spain at the Olimpico.

The Azzurrini conceded twice at home for the first time in two years against Spain, but Di Biagio insisted “it was the test we wanted” as he congratulated his players for “competing” with La Rojita.

“It was the test we wanted, in these two years we’ve always tried to compete with top teams like Spain,” the Coach told Rai after the game.

Azzurrini fall to Spain loss

Italy Under-21s conceded more than once at home for the first time in two years after they fell 2-1 to Spain in friendly action on Monday.

The Azzurrini surprisingly started with midfielder Rolando Mandragora in central defence and were badly outplayed in the first half, attempting just one shot on target, and conceded two goals in the space of four minutes.
