Di Biagio defends U21 tenure

Gigi Di Biagio explained his decision to drop Moise Kean for disciplinary reasons and defended his work in six years with the Under-21 Italy squad.

Chiesa: 'All we can do is wait'

Federico Chiesa “knew losing to Poland was very damaging” to their European U21 Championship and all Italy can do now is wait and hope.

The Azzurrini beat both Spain and Belgium 3-1, but the 1-0 defeat to Poland put all three teams on six points and the three-way goal difference put Italy second.

U21 Euro: Italy qualify if...

Italy must wait and see if they are the best runners-up to qualify for the European U21 Championship semi-finals, but the chances are slim.

The Azzurrini finished second in Group A with six points and a goal difference of +3.

Spain and Poland also had six points, so that order was decided by goal difference in their three-way record, putting La Rojita on top.

Now Gigi Di Biagio’s men must wait and see how the other Groups conclude before seeing if they make it into the semi-finals.

Locatelli: 'Only ourselves to blame'

Manuel Locatelli confessed Italy “shouldn’t have put ourselves in this situation,” as they must wait and hope other results go their way.

The Azzurrini beat Spain and Belgium 3-1, but the 1-0 defeat to Poland ruined everything.

With Spain, Italy and Poland all on six points, the group was decided by goal difference in their head-to-head matches, putting the Spaniards on top.

Cutrone: 'I almost burst into tears'

Patrick Cutrone admits he “almost burst into tears” after breaking his five-month goal drought, but Italy’s 3-1 win over Belgium was not enough.

“It was so emotional and I almost burst into tears. I have not gone through a good period, as I haven’t played much and didn’t score since January, so it meant a lot to me,” the Milan striker told Rai Sport.

Di Biagio: 'Italy must wait and see'

Italy U21 Coach Gigi Di Biagio believes they “had the most shots on goal” in the European Championship, but must wait and hope other results go their way.

The Azzurrini beat Belgium 3-1, but are second in the group behind Spain on head-to-head goal difference after their 5-0 victory over Poland.

It means all they can do is hope to be the best runners-up out of the three groups, but the chances are very slim, as a France-Romania draw would knock Italy out.
