Italy announce training camp

Italy will hold a double training camp on April 29-30 with young players who could go for the Under-21 or senior squads.

Coaches Roberto Mancini and Gigi Di Biagio will hold a joint Press conference on Monday April 29.

There is expected to be some crossover between the two levels of international football, as Italy are hosting the European Under-21 Championship in June.

This experiment of a joint training camp had already been held on February 4-5, when Mancini called up 32 players on the fringes of the squad.

Di Biagio puzzled by Croatia draw

Luigi Di Biagio admits he ‘doesn’t know’ how Italy Under-21s threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Croatia on Monday.

Italy U21 have now won just two of their last nine games after also failing to beat Austria, but Di Biagio insisted there were still ‘positives’ to be drawn from the friendly in Frosinone.

“Croatia are a team who let you play a bit more than usual,” he said after the game.

Azzurrini blow Croatia chance

Italy’s Under-21 team blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Croatia on Monday evening.

Italy made the perfect start as Alessandro Bastoni’s header and a Manuel Locatelli [pictured] strike put them 2-0 up inside the opening 26 minutes.

However, Riccardo Orsolini’s failure to take a one-on-one was quickly followed by Milan loanee Alen Halilovic pulling a goal back with a long-range effort.

Di Biagio: 'Received some responses'

Italy Under-21 Coach Gigi Di Biagio “got the response I was looking for from some players, not from others” after a 0-0 friendly with Austria.

This was the penultimate friendly test before Di Biagio has to name his squad for the European Under-21 Championship.

“We had a good opening half-hour, then lost our shape. We gave the ball away cheaply, created our own problems and lost some confidence in a game that we had started so well,” the Coach told Rai Sport.
