Thiago Motta reveals he told Bologna players he’s ‘proud’ to coach them and insists he’s happy at the Stadio Dall’Ara.

Motta’s Bologna beat Roma 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico and are now eight points above Atalanta who have a game in hand. In other words, they are highly likely to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in history.

“I told the guys I am proud to be their coach,” Motta told DAZN.

“They came on a difficult pitch and put in a high-level performance, both in attack and defence. This makes me really satisfied.”

Bologna see the target close now.

“I want to think about what we did tonight and enjoy this moment,” continued Motta.

“The rest will come with time. Our present is beautiful, but thinking about the rest is meaningless. I want to enjoy this moment and I am grateful to these players and our fans.

“The lads help each other, this is a key victory that boosts our confidence. They have fun together, and tonight they proved they’re on the right track. I am proud to coach these players.”

Joshua Zirkzee scored another goal.

“He is feeling well right now. But he’s young and he must continue working,” said Motta.

“He does great things on the pitch but must continue with the same desire.”

Motta didn’t say whether he’d watch the derby between his former club Inter and Milan.

“Many years have passed from the treble, I am getting old, but I have nice memories. I hope the best team wins and I want to continue with my Bologna because I am very happy here.”
