Milan target Zenit's Paredes

Milan have set their sights on Zenit St Petersburg and Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes for the January market.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, director Leonardo is hard at work on more targets after securing a €35m plus bonuses deal for Flamengo forward Paqueta.

The next reinforcement is in midfield, where 24-year-old Paredes fits the bill.

He is already familiar with Serie A due to his time at Chievo, Empoli and Roma, who sold him to Zenit in the summer of 2017 for €23m plus bonuses.

‘Milan wanted Marchisio’

Claudio Marchisio’s father and agent reveals Milan “offered to double” his son’s salary last year but “he wanted to end his career at Juventus”.

The midfielder agreed a contract termination with the Bianconeri this summer and joined Zenit St Petersburg, as he didn’t want to play for another Italian club.

“I have no regrets,” Stefano Marchisio told Tuttosport.

Del Piero: 25 years of Juve

Alessandro Del Piero is celebrating 25 years since his Juventus debut and recalls winning the Champions League in 1996 as his best memory.

Del Piero joined Juve from Padova in 1993 and made his Bianconeri debut on September 12 of that year, coming on for the final 15 minutes against Foggia.

“Kiddo, go on. My advice: keep the ball and draw some fouls,” the former Italy attacker remembered his then-Coach Giovanni Trapattoni as saying in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

Milan still in for Paredes

Milan are reportedly still interested in Leandro Paredes, but Zenit St Petersburg would demand at least €30m.

The former Roma midfielder has been constantly linked with a move to the Rossoneri, with former CEO Adriano Galliani looking to do a deal before Yonghong Li bought the club.

Under the Chinese ownership, Marco Fassone and Massimiliano Mirabelli pushed hard to sign the Argentine, but couldn’t agree a deal with his club.

Italy's midfield is missing

After defeat in Portugal, Adam Digby looks at how an incoherent midfield remains Italy’s biggest problem and one that Roberto Mancini must address.

There is perhaps some irony seeing Claudio Marchisio showing off his new Zenit St Petersburg shirt just days before the latest outing for the Italian national team.

When the former Juventus man pulls on the sky blue kit of the Russian Premier League side, he will no longer wear the No.8 shirt that had long been on the back of his Bianconero one. Instead it will be a 10, and on Monday evening in Lisbon, the Azzurri lacked both a player fit to wear that most prestigious of numbers and any representative from the midfielder’s former club.

Claudio Marchisio will wear No 10 for Zenit St Petersburg, whose sporting director ‘never feared’ the midfielder would move elsewhere.

“When I learned on 17 August that Marchisio had terminated his contract, I immediately called Claudio,” he told Tuttosport.
