Nainggolan to miss Zenit friendly

Inter midfielder Radja Nainggolan will reportedly miss Saturday’s friendly against Zenit St Petersburg after pulling up with a thigh strain.

Nainggolan lasted just 24 minutes of Inter’s 2-0 defeat to Zenit on Tuesday due to the muscle problem, and Sport Mediaset notes he will undergo tests on Friday.

The website assures the injury ‘doesn’t look serious’ but nonetheless expects the Belgian to skip the clash in Pisa on precautionary grounds.

Spalletti blames fitness work

Luciano Spalletti felt Inter’s pre-season fitness training was to blame for a sluggish performance and defeat to Sion. “It was evident from the start.”

The Nerazzurri were beaten 2-0 by Swiss side FC Sion in this evening’s friendly match, their second outing of the summer.

“Our opponents deservedly won, as we saw from the start that they were moving quicker and stronger than us,” the Coach told Inter TV.

The Russians equalised from a set play with Magomed Ozdoev and Luka Djordjevic hit the woodwork before half-time.

Gianluca Lapadula restored the Grifone advantage with a powerful header on Pedro Pereira’s cross.

Atalanta ask after Kranevitter

Atalanta have asked Zenit St Petersburg for the availability of midfielder Matias Kranevitter.

It would be an audacious move for the Orobici, as he cost €8m to sign from Atletico Madrid only a year ago.

The 25-year-old Argentine has nine senior caps for his country.

He made 33 competitive appearances for Zenit last season, contributing one assist.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the proposal was made today as an alternative to Mario Pasalic, who is close to Fiorentina on loan with option to buy from Chelsea.

New options for Spalletti

Inter have worked hard to find the players capable of stretching Luciano Spalletti's tactical imagination and providing options, writes Richard Hall.

As Inter’s transfer window activities continue to impress, it not only makes them look like a much deeper and stronger outfit, but also could bring out the best in their Coach Luciano Spalletti. The former Roma boss is nothing if not flexible and has a history of trying to experiment with his teams.

Now he has options to move away from a somewhat rigid structure which had given them the discipline to get back into the Champions League, so Inter could be entering a period where they evolve once again under the Tuscan.
