Bergamo's Band of Brothers

Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall looks at the blistering form of Atalanta and warns Inter ought to be concerned facing them at San Siro.

Any military unit, sports team, business unit or simply a group operates better, when there is a utilitarian aspect to them. When the greatest good for the greatest number is primary and the individual is not put first. This is what has happened in Bergamo, there are no Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s here. What’s more, that connectivity that has now reached the fans and turned what was already a hostile and passionate group, into the beating heart of Bergamo. They now work with the team, encourage and believe in them. Nobody wants to play Atalanta right now.

Atalanta are already winners

Regardless of whether Atalanta make it to the knockout stage, La Dea already proved their Champions League was not a waste, writes Vilizar Yakimov.

Atalanta’s impressive third place finish last term earned them an historic Champions League qualification, but La Dea can write yet more history on Wednesday.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s men need to win against Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine and at the same time hope that already qualified Manchester City don’t lose against Dinamo Zagreb. At first glance, the scenario seems unlikely, but it could very well happen, as Atalanta already proved they can hold their own in the group.
