Milan trio doubtful for Spurs

Clarence Seedorf, Gennaro Gattuso and Alessandro Nesta are all in a race against time to be fit for Milan's Champions League tie against Spurs.

The three wounded stars all underwent tests today after they picked up various injuries over the weekend.

Seedorf limped out of training on Saturday with a thigh problem, the same injury sustained by Gattuso in the warm-up ahead of last night's 2-0 win over Cesena. They will be out for three weeks.

Seedorf and Pirlo out for Milan

Clarence Seedorf, Andrea Pirlo and Rodney Strasser are out of the match with Cesena, leaving Milan with midfield problems.

Seedorf has not been included in the squad for the Sunday evening encounter, apparently due to a knee issue.

Pirlo made his first appearance of 2011 in the Coppa Italia midweek against Bari, but lasted just 20 minutes before limping off with a thigh problem.

Seedorf plays peacemaker

Clarence Seedorf has played down Rino Gattuso's argument with Alexandre Pato during Milan's 1-1 draw with Lecce at the Via del Mare last night.

Gattuso had grown frustrated with Pato, who was particularly wasteful, and went over to have a few choice words with his teammate.

Seedorf was then seen lightly tugging at Gattuso's elbow to lead the player away.

"At times things can seem bigger than they actually are," Seedorf explained. "They were only talking about a cross…

Line-ups: Seedorf starts in Lecce

Clarence Seedorf steps in to support Alexandre Pato and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as leaders Milan travel to Lecce.

Antonio Cassano is on the bench once again, but will come on later against the rivals of his hometown club Bari.

Coach Max Allegri had to do without the injured Christian Abbiati, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Gianluca Zambrotta, Andrea Pirlo and Pippo Inzaghi.

Massimo Ambrosini returns to the midfield after his ban alongside Mathieu Flamini, but Robinho is suffering from flu and therefore rested in favour of Seedorf.

Seedorf lays Cassano ground rules

Clarence Seedorf lays down the ground rules for new Milan teammate Antonio Cassano, while Alexandre Pato admits he hopes Leonardo flops at Inter.

“Cassano is a good lad who has certainly found a squad that gives him the opportunity to shine in this new adventure,” Seedorf told the Gazzetta dello Sport from the Dubai training camp.

“He immediately put himself at the disposal of the team, is working hard and trying to give his best. He didn't seem lazy at all and did plenty for someone who hasn't played for two months.

Seedorf respects struggling Inter

Milan ace Clarence Seedorf still considers Inter as a threat despite the Rossoneri's 1-0 victory in the derby last weekend.

Milan surged to the top of the table after a Zlatan Ibrahimovic penalty saw them move above Lazio, but, significantly, six points clear of the reigning champions.

However, when asked whether the derby game signified the end of an era for Inter and the start of one for Milan, Seedorf refused to write off the Nerazzurri.

Allegri is like Mourinho, says Seedorf

Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf has likened Massimiliano Allegri to Jose Mourinho after last night's victory in the Derby della Madonnina.

The Rossoneri beat Inter 1-0 thanks to a penalty from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, which sent them top of the table again with a one-point advantage over Lazio.

"We are happy because we won a game, but it takes time to open a cycle," Seedorf said.

"We need to get to know each other better. Balance is a subtle thing that you only obtain through results."

Seedorf draws morale from victory

Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf claims his teammates drew some much-needed morale from last night's 3-1 victory over Palermo at San Siro.

The Rossoneri are now alone at the top of Serie A for the first time since 2008 going into this weekend's Derby della Madonnina against Inter.

"We played with continuity. We were concentrated and aggressive and even at 1-1 we managed to keep calm," Seedorf explained.

"It's a result that gives us morale above all just a few days from the derby," he concluded.

Seedorf plays down derby importance

Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf insists that Sunday's Derby della Madonnina against Inter is just 'another game'.

The Rossoneri have to play Palermo beforehand, but their proximity to Inter in the table makes the tie all the more interesting.

Massimiliano Allegri's side have a one-point advantage on their cross-town rivals who lie a place below them in the standings in third spot.

"It will not be any more important than the other games because all the points are equal in the table," Seedorf said.
