Benevento complete double swoop

Benevento have completed a double swoop for Brazilian midfielder Guilherme and Christian Cannavaro, son of Italy legend Fabio.

Guilherme arrives from Polish champions Legia Warsaw on an 18-month contract, while Cannavaro is a midfielder who joins from Sassuolo, having been on loan at Serie B side Carpi.

The pair take the Stregoni’s tally for January signings to four after Jean-Claude Billong and Cheick Diabate.

Armenteros appeal for Utrecht move

Benevento have appealed to FIFA, as the proposed Samuel Armenteros move to Utrecht could he blocked by a technicality.

The two clubs had agreed to the loan deal just six months after Armenteros joined Le Streghe, as he made only nine appearances in Serie A.

However, the 27-year-old played 45 minutes with previous club Heracles Almelo in the reserve league before joining Benevento.

Benevento appeal Lucioni ban

Benevento President Oreste Vigorito vented his frustration at a one-year doping ban for captain Fabio Lucioni after their doctor confessed to his error.

Lucioni tested positive for Clostebol after the match with Torino on September 10.

Today the verdict was passed down and he’ll sit out a one-year ban, while their chief medic Walter Giorgione has been suspended for four years.

Genoa fight Getafe for Ciciretti

Amato Ciciretti is heading to Napoli in June, but Genoa have now overtaken Getafe as favourites for the Benevento forward’s loan.

His contract with Benevento expires at the end of the season and he has already agreed to join Napoli as a free agent.

It’s unlikely he will see out the campaign at the Stadio Scida, as Benevento want to cash in with a paid loan spell.

Getafe had seemed a done deal, but Tuttomercatoweb claim that Genoa have suddenly dived in with a new proposal for the free kick specialist.

Doping ban for Benevento captain

Benevento captain Fabio Lucioni has been given a one-year ban after failing a doping test and the club medic suspended for four years.

Lucioni tested positive for Clostebol after the game against Torino on September 10.

He was suspended as a precaution during the appeal process and resumed playing on December 23.

The verdict is now in and Lucioni is banned for one year.

Chief medic Walter Giorgione has been suspended for four years, as it’s believed he accidentally gave the player a banned substance.

Benevento: ‘Djuricic yes, Mauricio no’

Benevento are “down to the details” for Sampdoria’s Filip Djuricic, President Oreste Vigorito confirms, but Mauricio won’t join from Lazio.

Serie A’s bottom club are looking to reinforce their squad this month, and have already signed former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro.

“Djuricic? We should be down to the details,” Vigorito explained to Tuttomercatoweb.

Genoa & Benevento back Sibilia

Genoa and Benevento have both confirmed their support for amateur League chief Cosimo Sibilia in the FIGC presidential election.

Sibilia is one of three candidates to succeed Carlo Tavecchio on January 29, and he has received backing from two Serie A Presidents in Enrico Preziosi and Oreste Vigorito.

“I think it’ll be a two-horse race between Gravina and Sibilia. If I had to choose, I’d choose the second one,” the Genoa patron told Radio Anch’io Sport.

Mauricio for Benevento

Benevento have agreed terms with Lazio for defender Mauricio and are just waiting for the player’s all-clear.

The 29-year-old Brazilian centre-back was out on loan at Spartak Moscow last season, but has not played at all this term.

He is still on the Lazio pay-roll and they are eager to farm him out for a six-month spell at Benevento.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the two clubs have agreed a deal, but are waiting for Mauricio to give the all-clear.

Benevento approach Canales

Benevento have reportedly approached Real Sociedad attacking midfielder Sergio Canales, whose contract is running down.

The trequartista turns 27 next month and his contract is due to expire in June.

According to Sportitalia, the club at the bottom of the Serie A table has approached Canales for a January switch.

He has made 25 competitive appearances for Real Sociedad so far this season, contributing one goal and five assists.

Canales has played for Racing, Real Madrid and Valencia.

Armenteros to Utrecht

Benevento are sending striker Samuel Armenteros to Utrecht on loan after just six months in Serie A.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the 27-year-old striker pushed hard for a move to the Netherlands due to personal reasons.

He left Dutch side Heracles Almelo in August for €2m, having previously played in Belgium and Azerbaijan.

His Serie A tally this season with Benevento is of one goal in nine appearances.
