Report: Gattuso accepted 19th offer

Gennaro Gattuso reportedly rejected 18 jobs before deciding to take on the task of succeeding Carlo Ancelotti at Napoli.

After six months without a job, the former Milan boss is back in Serie A to help Napoli turn things around after their domestic sturggles under Carlo Ancelotti.

La Repubblica reports Rino could have slipped from the hands of Partenopei President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Ancelotti and Gattuso: A shared history

As Rino Gattuso takes the Napoli reins from sacked Carlo Ancelotti, it’s worth looking back over their history together. "I think you’re the right person in the right place."

Gattuso joined Milan in the summer of 1999 from Salernitana and had already cemented himself in the heart of the Milan midfield by the time Ancelotti replaced Fatih Terim in November 2001.

Together the pair won two UEFA Champions League trophies, one Scudetto, two European Super Cups, one Coppa Italia and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2007.

Gattuso the right man for Napoli?

Napoli have sacked Carlo Ancelotti to make way for relatively inexperienced Gennaro Gattuso. Livio Caferoglu wonders if it’s a step forward – or a step back...

The worst-kept secret in Serie A was finally revealed on Wednesday, when Napoli appointed Gennaro Gattuso as Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement. It came just hours after Ancelotti had guided the Partenopei to the last 16 of the Champions League, although in the eyes of President Aurelio De Laurentiis, that was not enough to make up for their dreadful domestic form.

The decision to sack Carletto was brave and probably needed to revive the Partenopei’s fortunes in Serie A. The same can be said about the man replacing him. Brave, indeed. But was he needed?

Gattuso returns Napoli to 4-3-3

Gennaro Gattuso will implement a 4-3-3 formation as new Napoli coach, according to reports.

He has arrived at the Castel Volturno training ground and will hold his presentation press conference today at 17.00 GMT.

Gattuso will replace Carlo Ancelotti as the Partenopei’s new coach, and is set to make tactical changes straight away.

Ancelotti favoured a 4-4-2, the first time he’s gone back to that system since his days in charge of Parma in the late 1990s.

Ancelotti too nice for Napoli

Maybe Carlo Ancelotti was always too nice to make his mark at Napoli, as Susy Campanale feels his style of ‘soft power’ no longer works.

Carlo Ancelotti is the gentleman of football management, the cuddly figure nobody can hate and everyone would like to share a glass of wine with – and not just because you know he has the best choice of vino on the planet. He was the master of ‘soft power,’ the ability to navigate strong personalities and seemingly appease them while at the same time making his own decisions. However, in recent years, Carletto appears to have lost the power part and just gone soft.

Gattuso to be named Napoli coach

Gennaro Gattuso will be appointed Napoli coach within hours, after the club announced that his mentor Carlo Ancelotti had been sacked.

The decision had been in the air for at least a week and was only stalled until now because they wanted to play the final Champions League group game.

Just hours after a 4-0 victory over Genk that sent them through to the Round of 16, Ancelotti met with President Aurelio De Laurentiis at the Hotel Vesuvio and was told of his dismissal.
