Allegri's past vital in Milan triumph

Massimiliano Allegri insists his lower League coaching experiences played a part in Milan winning the Scudetto.

The Rossoneri clinched the title on Saturday night during Allegri's first season with the San Siro giants.

While the likes of Leonardo, Vincenzo Montella and Roberto Mancini were instantly handed control of major clubs in their careers, Allegri had to learn his trade lower down the footballing ladder.

Milan comfortable and controlled

Milan secured their 18th Scudetto with a 0-0 at Roma to confirm top spot for the season. Rob Paton reflects on their achievement

Going into Saturday evening's game in Rome, Milan had held first place for 28 of the previous 35 weeks, and needing just a point to secure the title, produced a comfortable, controlling performance for a 0-0 which sparked celebrations.

The club's 18th Scudetto shield is also their 46th overall trophy in their 111-year history. Massimiliano Allegri became the 11th different Milan Coach to win the League, and the fourth to do so in his first year on the bench, following Arrigo Sacchi, Fabio Capello and Alberto Zaccheroni in that accomplishment.

Pirlo: 'We'll see if I'm still at Milan'

Andrea Pirlo struck a melancholy note in the Scudetto celebrations. “We'll see if I'm at Milan next season.”

The midfielder has barely featured this term due to injuries, but his contract expires in June and it does not look as if a renewal will be offered.

“The whole season has been unlucky for me, but this title party makes up for that,” said the World Cup winner.

“Massimiliano Allegri did a great job of finding the right mix to win a difficult tournament.
