Pato: 'Finally I was decisive'

Alexandre Pato was the brace hero in the derby and used it to answer his critics. “Finally I was decisive in a big match.”

The young striker has been at Milan since the age of 17 and still has a long way to go in his career, but will look back on the double in tonight's 3-0 victory over Inter.

“I gave a strong response to my critics with two important goals,” he told MilanNews.it.

“I always let criticism wash over me and played every single game with the intention of doing better.

Milan have a two-point lead on Inter in Serie A with eight games remaining this season.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he said: "Right now Milan are the favourites because they are ahead in the League table.

Abate turn

As Milan face a season-defining derby with Inter, Ignazio Abate prepares for his most significant challenge to his growing reputation as a top full-back. Rob Paton writes

In Milan's recent faltering, one remaining constant has been Ignazio Abate's progress at right-back. Performances against Tottenham and Palermo have been in marked contrast to that of the team, and Saturday's clash with Inter proves significant.

The Leo factor

Scott Fleming ponders how significant Leonardo's presence in the black and blue camp is for both clubs ahead of this Saturday's Derby della Madonnina

There will be 22 players on the field, around 80,000 fans in the stands and millions of viewers around the world. Yet it's hard to shake the feeling that this Saturday's Derby della Madonnina is all about one man – Leonardo.

Seven years since they last lifted the League trophy, Milan are finally in a position to break Inter's Scudetto stranglehold. How ironic it would be if they were thwarted by a man who was their employee as recently as last summer, who lived and breathed Milan for 13 years and scored a double for them in the derby in 1999.

Allegri optimistic of derby victory

Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri insists he is optimistic that his side can beat Inter in Saturday's Derby della Madonnina.

The Rossoneri have a slender two-point lead over their rivals at the top of Serie A and risk being overtaken if they suffer defeat.

"If they are optimistic, we are more so," Allegri told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Asked to describe what would happen if Milan were to win, he said: "We would go five points clear, actually it would be six points seeing that it's a head-to-head.

Boateng: Inter are scared

Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng thinks that although Inter appear confident ahead of the Derby della Madonnina, they are probably scared.

The momentum is clearly with the Nerazzurri who can overtake their rivals at the top of Serie A with a win on Saturday evening.

"From the outside, it can seem that Inter have more enthusiasm, but maybe closed in the dressing room they're scared.

"Milan are in front and they will have to make more of an effort than us.

Andriy Shevchenko has backed Milan to win Saturday's potentially title-deciding Derby della Madonnina against Inter at San Siro.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Shevchenko said: "I think that it's a decisive game for the Scudetto. Both teams are looking to win it and I think that Milan can do it.
