Italian champions Milan have confirmed that Clarence Seedorf has extended his contract for a further season.

The Dutchman met club officials this morning where he put pen to paper, committing himself to the outfit until June 2012.

Seedorf's previous deal was set to expire next month and he began extension talks last week.

However, amid interest from numerous Brazilian sides, he decided to take some time to review his options.

Tassotti: 'Mexes is no Saint...'

Milan assistant manager Mauro Tassotti is not concerned by Philippe Mexes' reputation. “Nobody's a Saint in football...”

The defender has made a free transfer from Roma to San Siro, but is known for his poor disciplinary record on the field.

“Do we need to file down some of his irritability and ‘slip-ups'? I believe these things have always been in football and we had to deal with some of them this season too.

Defender of the season

Giancarlo Rinaldi selects Jedi-like Milan centre-back Thiago Silva as Serie A's best stopper of the campaign

There is something of the Jedi about all the great defenders. They have a sense of anticipation which is superhuman, they can appear to bend events on the field of play to their will and sometimes simply their presence seems to send opponents cowering for cover. The Force is certainly strong in Thiago Silva.

Mou wants Ibra for Real

Jose Mourinho has asked Real Madrid to gift him Milan ace Zlatan Ibrahimovic ahead of the new campaign.

Mourinho wants his attack reinforced over the summer and the Swedish international is understood to be his top target.

The Special One knows all about Ibra, having bossed him for a season at Inter before Ibrahimovic's 2009 move to Barcelona.

Ibra returned to the Stadio Meazza last summer though, this time with the Nerazzurri's city rivals Milan.

If all goes well with the 32-year-old's fitness tests, his capture is expected to be made official at some stage this week – perhaps Wednesday or Thursday.

Cassano set for Milan talks

Milan chief Adriano Galliani will reportedly meet with the agent of Antonio Cassano at some stage on Wednesday.

The fantasista's future has been placed into some doubt ahead of the 2012 European Championship.

Although Milan are happy to keep him and the player is content at San Siro, the January arrival from Sampdoria may consider an exit if he receives offers from elsewhere.

Cassano is not guaranteed first team football at Milan in a squad which includes Robinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexandre Pato and Pippo Inzaghi.
