Pato: Derby too important to miss

Milan striker Alexandre Pato claims Saturday's Derby della Madonnina is too important to miss.

The Brazil international is recovering from an ankle injury and hopes to be ready in time.

Milan need Pato to spearhead their attack, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still serving a suspension.

Inter are just two points behind the League leaders and can overtake their rivals with a win.

Interviewed by Vanity Fair, Pato said: "I still have a little problem with the left ankle, but I think and I want it to be in place for the derby.

Galliani: Derby isn't decisive

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has attempted to downplay the significance of Saturday's Derby della Madonnina.

Inter are just two points behind Milan and can leapfrog the League leaders with a win.

"Whoever wins will have an advantage," Galliani said. "It will be a very important advantage if we win, a little less so if Inter do.

"There'll still be seven games and 21 points in play, and then there is Udinese and Napoli.

"It's a season that will go down to the wire."

Ganso: 'I will play in Serie A'

Santos starlet Ganso is part of his own personal derby, as Milan and Inter try to sign him. “Sooner or later, I'll play in Italy.”

The Brazilian youngster is one of the hottest properties on the transfer market for this summer, particularly between the San Siro giants.

“One day I'd love to play in Serie A and I think sooner or later I will play in Italy,” Paulo Henrique Ganso told Sky Sport Italia.

“I have never met Leonardo, but we have spoken often on the phone. He gives me great advice and is a wonderful Coach.

Ibra: 'If Milan lose title it's our fault'

Zlatan Ibrahimovic says it will be no one else's fault but Milan's if they throw away the Scudetto this season.

The 29-year-old Sweden international is suspended for next week's potentially title-deciding derby with former club Inter after he needlessly got himself sent off against Bari.

Asked if he feels burnt out, Ibrahimovic said: "No, no. I feel very good. My form is very good. It's all good.

"I think the title race will be tough until the end. There are eight games left.

Ranocchia optimistic ahead of derby

Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia is optimistic that he will be fit in time to face Milan in this week's Derby della Madonnina.

The 23-year-old was sent home from Italy's training camp in Coverciano last week after complaining of pain in his right knee.

Ranocchia underwent a series of tests this morning at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome and was consulted by Professor Pierpaolo Mariani.

Mariani has worked with the likes of Francesco Totti and Alessandro Nesta, and is an expert when it comes to knee injuries.

Inzaghi set for shock return

Milan's title hopes could be boosted by veteran striker Pippo Inzaghi. "I'll be back in 20 days," he stated.

Inzaghi was expected to be out for the rest of the season after picking up knee ligament damage in a 3-1 win over Palermo last year.

There were even some concerns that he would never play again.

However, after successful surgery and a return to training, the former Italian international wants to contribute to Milan's Scudetto bid this term.

Amelia: 'Chance to beat Leonardo'

Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia concedes the derby is also an opportunity for some players “to beat Leonardo.”

The current Inter Coach was in charge of the Rossoneri last season and now faces his former club in a Scudetto showdown.

“Do we want revenge on Leo? There is a general sense of indifference in the locker room, but I can say that some of my teammates want to beat him,” said Amelia.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be taking part, as his three-match ban was reduced on appeal, but not enough to play on April 2.

Zenit step up Gattuso bid

Gennaro Gattuso is reportedly heading to Russia for a move to Luciano Spalletti's Zenit St Petersburg.

The Milan midfielder has now retired from the Italy squad and his future at San Siro remains unclear.

His contract expires in June 2012 and, as a 33-year-old, the club is unsure whether to offer an extension.

Gattuso had already been close to leaving Milan last summer with offers from England, Qatar and Russia.

According to today's reports in Italy, Zenit Coach Spalletti has asked his side to push on for Rino's signature.

Van Bommel doubt for derby

Milan's preparations for the derby with Inter suffered another blow when Mark Van Bommel left the Holland camp with an injury.

The midfielder, who arrived from Bayern Munich during the January transfer window, was expected to start the Scudetto showdown next Saturday.

The club's medical staff is on high alert, though, as Van Bommel left the Dutch camp early after pulling up during training.

He was unfit for their victory in Hungary and is now also ruled out of the Oranje's upcoming friendly against the same team.
