Balotelli: I'm better than Cassano

Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has told Milan patron Silvio Berlusconi that he is wrong to consider Antonio Cassano the best Italian footballer.

It's no secret that the 20-year-old would like to play for Milan in the future. After all, he has supported the club since his childhood.

Interviewed for the inaugural issue of La Gazzetta dello Sport's new supplement Extra Time, Balotelli was asked for his reaction to Berlusconi's comments that Cassano is the best Italian talent.

Milan finally turn to Roma

Goalkeeper Flavio Roma will make his debut for Milan this week – 18 months after signing for the Rossoneri.

Roma will start in goal against Bari in Thursday's Coppa Italia match given the injuries to Christian Abbiati and Marco Amelia.

The latter, who had taken over for the sidelined Abbiati in recent weeks, picked up a thigh problem against Lecce and will be in the treatment room for the next seven days.

Roma joined the San Siro giants in August 2009 after spending eight years abroad in France with Monaco.

Bastos not joining Milan

Lyon have rubbished reports that Michel Bastos will join Italian giants Milan before the January transfer window closes.

The Rossoneri have recently been paired with the left-back, but Lyon general director Bernard Lacombe insists the 27-year-old is going nowhere.

"Everyone is asking me about Milan and Juventus, but, for the time being, the player is not moving. His sale is out of the question," Lacombe told TMW.

"At this point in time we want to strengthen the team, not sell players."

Genoa: No Criscito-Milan deal

Genoa have reacted with surprise to reports that they have agreed to sell Domenico Criscito to Milan.

A number of Italian news sources are this evening reporting that the two clubs have agreed terms for the Italian international.

However, the news comes just hours after President Enrico Preziosi again insisted that he wouldn't be selling Criscito in January.

"Criscito is not moving, at least not until the summer," said the Marassi patron.

Seedorf plays peacemaker

Clarence Seedorf has played down Rino Gattuso's argument with Alexandre Pato during Milan's 1-1 draw with Lecce at the Via del Mare last night.

Gattuso had grown frustrated with Pato, who was particularly wasteful, and went over to have a few choice words with his teammate.

Seedorf was then seen lightly tugging at Gattuso's elbow to lead the player away.

"At times things can seem bigger than they actually are," Seedorf explained. "They were only talking about a cross…

Nesta: Milan lost two points

Alessandro Nesta believes Milan's 1-1 draw with Lecce last night represents two points lost.

The League leaders slipped up in Puglia, throwing away a 1-0 advantage, which Zlatan Ibrahimovic had crafted with a wonderful long distance effort.

"We have lost two important points," Nesta told the club's official website.

"Even if we didn't play very well, above all in the first half, we were bringing the game home.

Milan can bid for Lazzari

Cagliari President Massimo Cellino has given Milan the green light to sign Andrea Lazzari.

The 26-year-old is Max Allegri's No 1 choice to reinforce his midfield in Janury.

Lazzari worked with Allegri for two years in Sardinia and has a close bond with the Milan boss.

"There is a willingness to negotiate," Cellino said.

"However in my opinion there won't be any particular problems seeing the relationship that I have with a true friend like Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani.

De Canio: 'Milan not impossible to beat'

Gigi De Canio's Lecce were torn apart by Milan in the season opener, but he is confident they won't suffer the same fate tonight.

“There have been some changes in our squad from that day,” he said of the 4-0 thrashing.

“Back then we had to pay a certain price for our first game, as many of our players had never been in Serie A and needed time to adapt.

Line-ups: Seedorf starts in Lecce

Clarence Seedorf steps in to support Alexandre Pato and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as leaders Milan travel to Lecce.

Antonio Cassano is on the bench once again, but will come on later against the rivals of his hometown club Bari.

Coach Max Allegri had to do without the injured Christian Abbiati, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Gianluca Zambrotta, Andrea Pirlo and Pippo Inzaghi.

Massimo Ambrosini returns to the midfield after his ban alongside Mathieu Flamini, but Robinho is suffering from flu and therefore rested in favour of Seedorf.
