Van Bommel: 'Sneijder's warning!'

Mark Van Bommel reveals he joined Milan despite the advice of fellow Dutchman Wesley Sneijder. “I felt the warmth of a family atmosphere.”

The veteran midfielder made the move from Bayern Munich after lightning negotiations this week and has already made his debut in the Coppa Italia win at Sampdoria.

“I didn't have a chance to train before the game, as the day before I was still in Munich discussing the contract,” he said in his presentation Press conference this evening.

The Brazilian heir to Desailly

James Horncastle reports on Max Allegri's latest tactical move, which could see Thiago Silva become the next Marcel Desailly

Jari Litmanen could barely breathe. The Finnish No 10 huffed and puffed, his hollow cheeks now red, the contours of his face wet with perspiration. Louis Van Gaal had no choice but to haul him off. It was the 69th minute of the 1995 Champions League Final and Ajax were playing Fabio Capello's all-consuming Milan. "I suffer from asthma," Litmanen sighed. When asked to explain what that had anything to do with it, he replied: "They put Desailly on me and Desailly is a tough marker."

Garrone can't forgive Cassano

Sampdoria President Riccardo Garrone can't let bygones be bygones with his former protégé Antonio Cassano.

The two fell out massively in October, prompting Garrone to freeze Cassano out of his squad and ask that the player's contract be rescinded.

Cassano was allowed to join Milan in December. He returns to Marassi for the first time since his departure this evening for a Coppa Italia Quarter-Final against Samp.

Official: Milan's Paloschi to Genoa

Milan have bought Parma out for Alberto Paloschi, sending him to Genoa in a co-ownership deal, and loaned Bruno Montelongo to Bologna.

Rossoneri youth academy product Paloschi has been playing for Parma since the summer of 2008, as the two clubs shared his contract 50-50.

The young striker postpones his return to San Siro again, as Milan have bought out Parma's half of the player and sold it back to Genoa.

Paloschi will play for the Rossoblu for the rest of the current season.

Max Allegri was very pleased with the performance of Milan newcomers Mark Van Bommel and Urby Emanuelson.

The two new signings were thrown straight into the starting XI for today's 2-1 Coppa Italia quarter-final victory at Sampdoria.

“It was important for us to get through this round and reach the semi-final,” said the Coach.

“We played an excellent first half and could've sealed qualification before the break, but then we conceded and it was only normal that Samp would pour forward to complete the comeback.

Official: Milan sign Van Bommel

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Milan have signed Mark Van Bommel.

Milan had initially ruled out a move for the Holland international partly on account of his age, but a series of injuries to their midfielders has brought about a rethink.

Adriano Galliani and Ariedo Braida apparently travelled to Munich yesterday to hold talks with Van Bommel who is being represented by Mino Raiola, the agent who brokered Zlatan Ibrahimovic's switch from Barcelona to Milan in the summer.
