Milan need Arsenal for Bennacer

Milan must wait for Arsenal to give the all-clear before they can purchase Algeria international Ismael Bennacer from Empoli.

The 21-year-old midfielder seems to have agreed personal terms, after a few issues this week, and is ready to complete the transfer for €16m plus another €1m in add-ons.

However, Sky Sport Italia maintain the final word is down to Arsenal, as the Gunners have a clause in the contract when they sold him to Empoli for €1m in 2017.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the negotiations are continuing with both clubs and the French midfielder remains out of pre-season training with his teammates, particularly as he was pelted with insults by the Viola fans.

It’s believed Roma are still in front with an offer of €16m plus another €2m in bonuses, compared to Milan’s €15m and €2m add-ons.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, negotiations reached a positive conclusion during this afternoon’s conversation between director Paolo Maldini and agent Moussa Sissoko.

Milan had already worked out a transfer fee with Empoli worth €16m plus another €1m in bonuses.

For a few days, it looked as if the whole deal would collapse due to differences between Milan’s offer and Bennacer’s wage demands.

FIFA toughens racism stance

FIFA has toughened its stance on racism, allowing victims to make statements and confirming games can be forfeited.

FIFA’s previous approach to racism came under heavy scrutiny, with critics accusing the governing body of being too lenient.

It came after Inter, Lazio and Cagliari escaped serious punishments last season, despite their fans racially abusing Kalidou Koulibaly, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Moise Kean.

Toro charge towards Europe

With Torino unexpectedly given a shot at the Europa League, Jay Cassano evaluates where the squad needs to improve.

Milan's exclusion from European football as a result of their Financial Fair Play settlement means Torino gets to take their place. In truth, missing a season of the Europa League won't have much impact on Milan's fortunes given their strong revenue base while they try to become a Champions League squad once again. But for Torino, it represents a significant upswing in fortunes. This windfall sets the Granata up to continue building on the strong work they've done in recent seasons.
