Locatelli: 'My riches to rags story at Milan'

Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli goes back over his “riches to rags” story with Milan. “It really hurt when I was told the club didn’t believe in me.”

The 22-year-old came up through their youth ranks and was tipped for greatness, but sold to Sassuolo for €12.5m plus bonuses in 2018.

“Let’s call it a riches to rags story at Milan, as at the beginning I was considered to be a star, which I absolutely was not,” he said in an Instagram interview with Sassuolo.

Report: Milan have Icardi 'dream'

Milan are ‘dreaming’ of a sensational deal to sign Mauro Icardi from arch-rivals Inter, claims Corriere dello Sport.

The newspaper writes Milan could benefit from the continuing standoff between Inter and Juventus, who have long been linked with taking the striker to Turin.

The Argentine is currently on loan at Paris Saint-Germain, where he has scored 20 goals this season, and the French giants have a €70m option to buy.

Clubs to discuss wages individually

Clubs are expected to begin negotiating individually for wage cuts during the coronavirus lockdown, as the Players’ Association President Damiano Tommasi warns “we must protect those with lower salaries.”

A new Lega Serie A meeting of the 20 top flight clubs has been scheduled for tomorrow and news agency Ansa claims the conference call will cover among other things the issue of wages.

While Juventus, Inter and Serie C side Monza have agreed to cuts, talks with the Players’ Association (AIC) reached an impasse.

Milik seen as Ibrahimovic heir

Arkadiusz Milik is increasingly the main Milan target to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but the €40m asking price from Napoli is a problem.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, among many others, Poland international Milik is considered the ideal centre-forward for next season.

Ibrahimovic is only under contract until June and seems very likely to walk away, especially after his friend Zvonimir Boban was fired as director.

Milik’s future at Napoli is also looking grim, as talks have failed to agree a new deal beyond June 2021.

Barcelona and Lazio want Romagnoli

Reports are growing in Italy and Spain that Barcelona and Lazio will bid for €50m-rated Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli.

The Rossoneri will likely need to sell players this summer to raise funds and Gianluigi Donnarumma might not be the only star leaving the club.

Romagnoli’s transfer value has more than doubled since his €25m transfer from Roma in the summer of 2015, but as part of the deal, Milan owe the Giallorossi a 30 per cent cut of the profits.

Rangnick to Milan back on?

Gazzetta dello Sport reports Milan are still keen on Ralf Rangnick and that Elliott Management is ready to invest €75m on new players.

Talks with Rangnick seemed to be slowing down, with Luciano Spalletti becoming the new favourite to replace Stefano Pioli.

However, La Gazzetta assures the former RB Leipzig boss is still very much at the forefront of Elliott’s plans for the Rossoneri.

As per the newspaper, the issue of next season’s budget is currently being negotiated between the two parties.

COVID-19 immunity tests for players

When players do return to training, they will be rigorously tested and divided into three groups: positive, immune and not immune for COVID-19.

The number of new cases, deaths and above all intensive care admissions are all dropping, suggesting Italy is past the peak and moving towards the end of this crisis.

Plans are therefore being drawn up to ensure that if and when athletes do return to action, their health and safety is guaranteed.

Milan linked with Rakitic again

Milan will try again to sign Ivan Rakitic from Barcelona, claim Mundo Deportivo, but his €8m per year salary represents a big problem.

According to the Spanish newspaper, the Rossoneri are set for a third attempt to coax Rakitic to San Siro.

He is seen as a leadership figure and star name in midfield to help younger figures around him develop.

The 32-year-old Croatia international’s contract with Barcelona is due to expire in June 2021 and a summer exit is not out of the question.

'Market back to pre-Neymar levels'

When football returns after the coronavirus lockdown, agent Vincenzo Morabito believes the transfer market will be transformed to “pre-Neymar levels.”

Clubs are scrambling to suspend pay for their players and balance the books, as calling the entire season to a halt for weeks due to the pandemic will inevitably hit their finances hard.

Agent Morabito expects this to have a long-lasting effect on the transfer market, particularly the huge figures that were being exchanged at the very top level.
