Rizzoli: 'Referees can discuss one-on-one'

Refereeing designator Nicola Rizzoli has claimed the players can confront the referees with a ‘quiet dialogue between two people’ when Serie A resumes.

The referees will still be allowed to explain their decisions to the players under the new protocol but Rizzioli points out that it must be done with caution.

“You can have a quiet dialogue with respect for the referee,” he told SportMediaset. “Therefore, a confrontation between two people, not one against four. Respect starts with distance.”

Donnarumma could sign for Maldini

Technical director Paolo Maldini could help Milan renew with Gianluigi Donnarumma as his final gesture before the former captain leaves Milanello.

Calciomercato.com claims Donnarumma will extend his current deal expiring in June 2021 in the next few weeks and could therefore be Maldini’s final touch before stepping down from his director role at the Rossoneri.

Report: Allegri ready to work again

Former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri seems set for a return after one year without a job and has reportedly been targeted by Paris Saint-Germain.

The Italian has recharged his batteries for the last year and, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, waits for the best opportunity to present itself.

The report claims he would prefer a new job in Italy because of his family but it could be difficult to find a job that lives up to his expectations in Serie A.

Tommasi raises contract issue

Players’ Association President Damiano Tommasi insists the only way they can move through the issue of contracts expiring is ‘with a gentleman’s agreement.’

The season is extended to at least August because of the two-month lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic, but contracts still expire on June 30.

“It’s impossible to get a legal extension,” AIC President Tommasi told Sky Sport Italia.

Players rule out 16.30 kick-off

The Players’ Association warned the idea of playing Serie A games at 16.30 local time in the peak of summer is ‘out of the question.’

There had been suggestions the fixtures would be spread out through three kick-off times, at 16.30, 18.45 and 21.00.

However, in the medical protocol presented to the Minister for Sport today, there was no sign of the earlier match slot.

No early kick-offs in Serie A

According to reports, there are some changes to the medical protocol for games, such as scrapping afternoon kick-offs and keeping the door open for reducing quarantine.

The protocol for group training was agreed this week and that represented a huge step forward in restarting the Serie A season.

It remains largely unchanged for organising matches, but there are a few adjustments.

Coronavirus cases continue falling

There were only 531 new COVID-19 cases in Italy over the last 24 hours and 50 deaths, but the Lombardy figures were not included.

The pandemic continues to ease in the Peninsula, with Lombardy a distinct outlier that is pushing the overall statistics up considerably.

With just 50 deaths registered since yesterday throughout the rest of the country, that is the lowest figure since February, when the crisis began.

The total death toll since the first case on February 20 is now 32,785 (excluding today’s Lombardy statistics).
