Lukaku and Mertens in Belgium squad

Napoli forward Dries Mertens and Inter striker Romelu Lukaku have been called up for Euro 2020 by Belgium CT Roberto Martinez.

The Partenopei forward and the Nerazzurri striker will thus represent Serie A in the Red Devils’ squad, while Milan winger Alexis Saelmaekers, capped once so far, is on stand-by for now.

Lukaku has played 91 games with Belgium, contributing 59 goals in the process and played in the World Cup 2014 and 2018 and the European Championship in 2016.

Napoli forward Dries Mertens seems set to miss the next match against Crotone but should be back for Juventus on April 7.

The Belgian striker remained with the international team despite having hurt his shoulder against Czech Republic.

Mertens started the World Cup Qualifier but was substituted after falling awkwardly onto his shoulder.

La Repubblica reports Napoli forward Dries Mertens will remain in the Belgium squad after hurting his shoulder against Czech Republic.

Gennaro Gattuso reportedly appreciated Roberto Martinez’s gesture when the Belgium CT brought Mertens off after 56 minutes due to an issue in the shoulder.

Mertens has started the game but was substituted in Prague after falling awkwardly onto his shoulder.

The newspaper claims Mertens will not return to Naples and stay with the squad that faces Belarus tomorrow.

Mertens shoulder injury not serious

Napoli are breathing a sigh of relief after reports Dries Mertens has not badly damaged his shoulder playing for Belgium.

The striker went off after falling awkwardly during last night’s 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic.

There were concerns, especially as Victor Osimhen dislocated his shoulder on international duty for Nigeria in November and was out for several months.

However, the Corriere del Mezzogiorno newspaper claims Mertens has been in contact with Napoli staff.

Napoli are awaiting news from the Belgium camp after Dries Mertens hurt his shoulder in the World Cup qualifier with the Czech Republic.

The striker had started the game, but was substituted in Prague after 56 minutes.

Dries Mertens ‘lives like a King in Naples, but it doesn’t take much to lose your throne’ and he is thinking about the future after Napoli.

The 33-year-old has been in Naples since 2013 and earned the most Neapolitan of nicknames, Ciro.

“At times I think that I can play until I’m 40, whereas at others I think I don’t have kids yet, I have time to travel the world. It’d be nice to discover something new,” Mertens told Belgian paper HLN.
