Blatter: 'Infantino has become a megalomaniac'

Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter has criticised the current leader Gianni Infantino: “He wants to make football into a massive money machine.”

The current President Infantino was elected after Blatter’s controversial resignation in 2015 and the former chief, who made the World Cup into one of the most profitable events in sports, claims his compatriot successor was clearing the way to make ‘everything bigger’.

Infantino: 'Let's all save football together'

President Gianni Infantino has warned football to “prepare for the worst” but insisted FIFA will do everything they can to help. "We all have to make sacrifices".

In these testing times, with football suspended all across the world due to the Coronavirus emergency, FIFA are digging deep in their pockets to help the organisations that suffer economically.

But the FIFA President has claimed that there are no guarantees for when football can resume.

First UEFA meeting concluded

UEFA’s first meeting between the Leagues, ECA and FIFPro has been concluded ahead of the scheduled conference call of the UEFA Executive Committee.

The Coronavirus outbreak has put football on a standstill and the consequences for the European Leagues rely on the decision to postpone Euro 2020 this summer.

Both L'Equipe and Reuters have reported that UEFA have cancelled their hotel bookings in Copenhagen, signalling that the Finals will be postponed, but there's still no official announcement.

New Club World Cup faces boycott

All of Italy’s top sides have vowed to boycott a revised Club World Cup with 24 teams.

On Friday, FIFA approved plans to expand the Club World Cup from just the champions of its confederations to 24 sides, starting from 2021 and running from June 17 to July 4.

The proposal would also see the tournament sandwiched by 2022 World Cup qualifiers and both the Africa Cup of Nations and CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Agnelli: ‘Club World Cup a failure’

Juventus President Andrea Agnelli calls the Club World Cup “a failure”, but distances the ECA from Gianni Infantino’s proposed reforms.

The European Club Association and UEFA have today confirmed plans to work together until 2024 and beyond, and insisted that a Super League is off the table.

There will be reforms to the Champions League and a third UEFA club competition, but there is also a controversial FIFA plan to change the Club World Cup.

Juventus, Inter, Milan for Club World Cup

Reports in Italy suggest FIFA’s revamped Club World Cup will start in 2021, with Juventus, Inter and Milan all invited.

World football’s governing body is seeking to expand the current tournament, which features the winners of the UEFA, CONCACAF, AFC, CAF, OFC and CONMEBOL Champions Leagues.

FIFA wants to expand the tournament to revamp the tournament, holding it every four years in a deal would could be worth around €21bn.

Japan to host Club World Cup

The Club World Cup will be played in Japan from 10-20 December 2015, confirmed FIFA.

The top tournament for club sides all over the globe had already been hosted by Japan from 2005 to 2008, then again in 2011 and 2012.

It had been held in Morocco for the past two years, but has returned to Asia.

“This is a country with a proven track record when it comes to staging FIFA events, including six editions of the FIFA Club World Cup, which were all successful,” said FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke.

Real Madrid win Club World Cup

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid beat San Lorenzo 2-0 to win the Club World Cup in Marrakech.

Having already lifted the Champions League trophy in May, Italian tactician Ancelotti has taken Los Blancos to the biggest tournament in club football.

Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale got the goals in an ill-tempered encounter with the Argentine side, which provided Ancelotti with his all-time club record 22nd consecutive victory in all competition.
