Allegri approached for Netherlands job?

According to Sky Sport Italia, Max Allegri was approached to take the Netherlands job, but is holding out for a club position.

The Dutch side is due to face Italy in the Nations League on Monday evening in Amsterdam.

They are operating under interim manager Dwight Lodeweges after coach Ronald Koeman left to take on the Barcelona job.

The favourite to lead Holland is Henk ten Cate, but Sky Sport Italia report that Allegri had been initially approached.

De Roon: 'Thanks to Atalanta'

Marten de Roon is looking forward to facing Italy in the Nations League for the Netherlands. ‘It’s thanks to Atalanta I reached the national team.’

The midfielder has 15 senior caps for the Dutch side and is expected to feature in Monday’s match in Amsterdam.

“We already played two years ago in a friendly, even if both teams at the time were still in the construction phase of their projects,” said De Roon in his press conference.

Lodeweges: 'Italy similar to Netherlands'

Interim Netherlands manager Dwight Lodeweges maintains his team is ‘very similar’ to Italy, as ‘we both want to take the initiative and control the game.’

They go head-to-head in the Nations League in Amsterdam on Monday, kicking off at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

Lodeweges was promoted on a temporary basis from the role of assistant manager after Ronald Koeman left to take over at Barcelona.

Italy set for Dutch revamp

Italy are expected to make wholesale changes for Monday’s Nations League tie against the Netherlands, including Giorgio Chiellini, Ciro Immobile, Jorginho and Nicolò Zaniolo.

The Azzurri began their Nations League campaign with a 1-1 home draw against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday evening, as Stefano Sensi cancelled out the Edin Dzeko opener.

Italy's heroic stand in Holland

Mention the Netherlands and the Amsterdam Arena, Italy fans like Richard Hall will immediately drift back to the epic Euro 2000 semi-final.

Luigi Di Biagio gestured at the referee, he was complaining that Edwin van de Saar was not on his line and was instead trying to play mind games. You could not blame him for being agitated by the situation; after all, he was showing incredible courage. Only two years before, his penalty miss against France had caused heartbreak, as Italy exited the World Cup on penalties. Now, in the semi-finals of Euro 2000, he had volunteered to take the Azzurri’s first penalty and quite frankly, he could have done without the goalkeeper’s antics.

Mancini: 'Italy have room for improvements'

Italy CT Roberto Mancini wants to see the Azzurri ‘pick up where we left off’ and highlighted the need to do well in the UEFA Nations League ‘to avoid complications’ in the World Cup qualifiers.

The Italian side have impressed since Mancini took over at Coverciano and went through the Euro 2020 qualifiers with a perfect run of 10 wins out of 10.

Mancini wants to see his side continue the progress, but insists Italy are ‘working every day to develop’.

Belotti expressed 'worries' for COVID

Italy international Andrea Belotti admitted he’s ‘a little bit worried’ about the risk of contracting coronavirus. ‘We follow the precautions to the letter’.

The Torino forward was called up to play in the UEFA Nations League this week, when Italy host Bosnia tomorrow before visit to Holland on Monday.

At Coverciano, the 26-year-old revealed he was scared of ‘infecting and becoming infected’.

De Vrij pulls out of Holland squad

The Dutch Football Federation have confirmed Inter defender Stefan de Vrij has pulled out of the Netherlands squad and will miss the match against Italy.

De Vrij was called up to participate in the two UEFA Nations League matches against Poland tomorrow and Italy on Monday.

The Nerazzurro has pulled out of the squad because of an injury, confirmed by a statement released on the Oranje’s official website.

Jorginho in, Tonali out for Italy

Jorginho joins the Italy squad, but Sandro Tonali is left out for the Nations League games against Bosnia and the Netherlands.

The opening game of their group is against Bosnia in Florence this Friday, while they visit Holland on Monday evening.

There had been two asterisks next to names in the squad released by coach Roberto Mancini, as Jorginho and Tonali were awaiting COVID-19 tests.

It was confirmed tonight that the Chelsea midfielder has arrived at the training ground in Coverciano and is undergoing tests there.

De Vrij: 'I speak to De Jong again now'

Inter defender Stefan de Vrij said he has only just ‘started talking to’ Sevilla forward Luuk de Jong again after the disappointing Europa League Final.

The Netherlands have regrouped ahead of their two UEFA Nations League games this week and De Vrij will be De Jong’s teammate again.

The Sevilla forward scored twice in the first half to help the Spanish side secure a 3-2 win against Inter, and De Vrij admitted he didn’t speak to the Dutch striker for a while.
