Mancini: 'Young Italy need help'

Roberto Mancini is glad Italy fans “understand we have many young players who need help and enthusiasm” to develop.

The Azzurri are beginning a new era and Mancini focused on youth in his two friendly games so far, a 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia and 3-1 defeat to France.

“It is important to rediscover the enthusiasm for the Nazionale,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Mancini: 'Balotelli can do better'

Roberto Mancini said Mario Balotelli “can do much better” after a goal on his Italy comeback against Saudi Arabia and promised changes with France.

The 2-1 friendly victory was Mancini’s debut on the Azzurri bench and Balotelli found the net 20 minutes into his first Nazionale game for four years.

U17: Italy lose on penalties

Italy lost the Under-17 European Championship Final in a penalty shoot-out after their 2-2 draw with the Netherlands.

The Azzurrini had been trailing in Rotherham, then turned it around with two stunning long-range strikes in the space of 90 seconds.

Samuele Ricci’s scorcher was followed by an even better effort from captain Alessio Riccardi into the far top corner from over 20 metres out.

However, Brian Brobbey drew Holland level by sneaking up behind the Italian defenders.

Italy: Balotelli in Mancini squad

Roberto Mancini has named his first Italy squad for friendlies against Saudi Arabia, France and the Netherlands, including Mario Balotelli.

The new CT was appointed this week, the first permanent Coach since Giampiero Ventura was fired in November for failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

He’ll make his Nazionale debut in San Gallen, Switzerland, on May 28 against Saudi Arabia.

Italy then face France in Nice on June 1 and host the Netherlands in Turin’s Juventus Stadium on June 4.

Mancini to name first Italy squad

New Italy Coach Roberto Mancini will name his first squad today, expected to include Mario Balotelli, Bryan Cristante and Matteo Politano.

The Azzurri will face the Saudi Arabia on May 28 in San Gallen, Switzerland, then France in Nice on June 1 and the Netherlands in Turin on June 4.

Mancini was appointed this week and will begin his Nazionale tenure by naming a 25-man squad this afternoon.

UEFA ban ruins Buffon swansong?

Gianluigi Buffon risks missing out on his Italy swansong after he was charged by UEFA over comments about referee Michael Oliver.

The Juventus goalkeeper was charged with breaching UEFA’s “general principles of conduct” for his statements following the Champions League semi-final exit to Real Madrid.

The verdict is expected on May 31, but La Gazzetta dello Sport is concerned this could spill over into his international career.

Buffon to snub Italy swansong?

There are reports Gianluigi Buffon will reject a final call-up for Italy-Netherlands, even though it was organised at the Juventus Stadium for him.

Italy invited to US anti-World Cup?

Reports in America suggest the U.S. Soccer Federation will invite Italy, the Netherlands, Ghana and Chile for a pre-World Cup tournament.

These are all massive nations who are accustomed to taking part in the biggest competition in international football, but have failed to qualify for 2018 in Russia.

ESPN claim sources from the U.S. Soccer Federation and Soccer United Marketing confirmed the existence of plans for a series of friendlies on American soil.
