Zola to Hull City?

It is reported that Hull City are close to appointing Gianfranco Zola as their new manager.

The 50-year-old has previously enjoyed spells in charge of West Ham United, Watford and Cagliari but has been without a club since his departure from Qatari side Al-Ahli.

The newly-promoted Premier League club have been looking for a new boss since the resignation of Steve Bruce, who led them to Championship play-off success last season.

Zola: ‘Sad to see Parma in D’

Gianfranco Zola admits it’s ‘sad’ to see his former club Parma in Serie D, but hopes for a ‘great recovery’.

The Ducali were declared bankrupt at the end of the season, and as a result were unable to register for Serie B.

A successor club, Parma Calcio 1913, has been allowed entry to the amateur Serie D, and Zola, who spent four seasons at Tardini, hopes they can bounce back.

“Seeing Parma in Serie D is something I can’t understand,” the former striker admitted in an interview with Sky.

Zola: ‘Balotelli, come to Qatar’

Al-Arabi Coach Gianfranco Zola believes Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli and free agent Antonio Cassano should join him in Qatar.

Having been dismissed by Cagliari during their relegation battle last season, the former striker has moved to the Middle East, and believes the experience could be beneficial for two of calcio’s controversial characters.

“There are extraordinary resources here,” Zola told Sky.

“The federation headquarters are really cutting-edge, but we have to build the right culture of hard work.

Zola casts eye over his career

Gianfranco Zola celebrates his 49th birthday by looking back over his long career at Napoli, Parma, Chelsea and Cagliari.

“My initial difficulties were down to my height, as I had to earn credibility,” Magic Box told GianlucaDiMarzio.com.

“Everyone said I was a good player, but they had reservations over my size and lack of muscles. Everything I did had to be much better than the others to get any credit. In a way that was a disadvantage, but on the other it made me more rigorous from an early age.

Giulini: 'No Zeman regrets'

Cagliari are on the verge of relegation, but President Tommaso Giulini would “choose Zdenek Zeman again a thousand times.”

The Sardinians will go down if Atalanta pick up a point against Genoa, regardless of what result Cagliari get with Palermo.

“I would choose Zeman or Gianfranco Zola again a thousand times,” Giulini told Radiolina.

“However, now I will begin again with a more conservative choice. I hear many names suggested, but I can assure you we haven’t contacted anybody yet.

Festa: ‘Cagliari have hope’

Gianluca Festa says his Cagliari side ‘kept hope alive’ after thrashing Parma 4-0 at Sant’Elia tonight.

The Isolani are six points from safety with four games to play, but would have been all-but relegated were it not for their win tonight.

“The lads have become aware of what they can do,” Festa explained to Sky after the match.

“We’ve been working hard to get them playing to the maximum. Another step which has kept hope alive. That’s the desire we always go onto the pitch with.
