Frosinone saw off Perugia in a promotion battle to stay second with Spezia, Empoli came back in the last-gasp Tuscan derby, but Trapani were humiliated 5-0.

Scozzarella extends with Parma

Parma have announced that Matteo Scozzarella has signed a contract extension with the club until the end of the 2020-21 season.

The 31-year-old has been with the Gialloblu since 2017, when he signed from Trapani.

Scozzarella has made 80 appearances for Parma and has provided 18 assists in his time at the Emilia-Romagna club.

He’s now signed an 18-month extension to his current deal.

The midfielder has made 11 appearances in Serie A this season for the Gialloblu.

Report: New deal for Scozzarella

Parma are reportedly close to renewing Matteo Scozzarella’s contract at the Ennio Tardini and are expected to sign a deal latest on Thursday.

The 31-year-old’s current deal expires this June and Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the former Trapani player will sign a new contract until June 2022 in the coming days.

This term, Scozzarella has played 10 games in Serie A and one in the Coppa Italia and arrived from Trapani in January 2017.

Serie B: Trapani hire Castori

Trapani have appointed Fabrizio Castori as their new head coach, replacing Francesco Baldini at the helm.

With the club currently 19th in Serie B, the 65-year-old has been given the task to turn things around.

Castori has over 1000 games under his belt, with over 400 of them coming in Serie B, giving him the required experience to help the Sicilians in their battle for survival this season.

He was also the architect of Carpi’s historic promotion to the top flight in 2014-15.

Official: Biabiany joins Trapani

Former Inter and Parma winger Jonathan Biabiany has signed for Serie B side Trapani on a free transfer.

Biabiany had been without a club since leaving Parma over the summer, but he will now help Trapani in their bid to avoid the drop from Serie B.

He has put pen to paper on a contract until the end of the season with the Sicilian outfit.

The 31-year-old has made over 200 appearances in the Italian top flight but was diagnosed with a heart problem in 2014 and has struggled ever since.

Coppa: Verona out, Cittadella thriller

There were surprises in the Coppa Italia Third Round, as Hellas Verona went out to Cremonese, Empoli taken to extra time, a six-goal Carpi thriller and prolific Frosinone.

Newly-promoted Hellas Verona saw their Coppa Italia campaign grind to a halt at the first hurdle.

Alan Empereur had put the hosts in front at the Bentegodi with a powerful volley on a corner, but deep into stoppages Cremonese equalised through a Michele Castagnetti tap-in following chaotic defending.

Coppa: Monza to face Fiorentina

Silvio Berlusconi’s Monza shocked Serie B side Benevento to set up a tie with Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia third round.

Monza won a seven-goal thriller, surviving a late penalty to beat Benevento 4-3, and face Fiorentina in the next round.

Feralpisalo, Pisa, Perugia, Salernitana, Venezia, Crotone, Spezia, Sudtirol, Cremonese and Imolese, meanwhile, all secured Serie A ties.

So did Chievo, although the Flying Donkeys needed a penalty shootout to avoid a giant-killing at the hands of third-tier Ravenna.

Trapani promoted to Serie B

Trapani are back in Serie B after winning the promotion play-offs against Piacenza.

The Sicilians drew 0-0 in the first leg at the Stadio Garilli, then won the home fixture 2-0 tonight with M’Bala Nzola and Anthony Taugourdeau goals.

They are promoted into Serie B for the 2019-19 season, joined by Virtus Entella, Pisa, Juve Stabia and Pordenone.

It's a remarkable achievement, considering Trapani players haven't been paid for months and sued the club for financial mismanagement.

Trapani sued over unpaid wages

Trapani are about to play the promotion play-off to earn their place in Serie B, but the squad is suing the club for unpaid wages.

The Sicilian club will play against Piacenza in the play-off final on June 8 and 15.

However, these crucial games are overshadowed by the serious financial problems they are struggling with and the players have had enough.

Via the AIC (Italian Players Association), the Trapani squad released a statement confirming the club “repeatedly failed to maintain promises regarding payments.

Coppa: Torino thrash Trapani

Torino thrashed Trapani 7-1 in the Coppa Italia, with Andrea Belotti bagging a brace.

The Granata the Sicilian side at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, with Milan sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli in the stands, reportedly to watch Belotti.

The Italian international opened the scoring after 13 minutes, but five minutes later but Pasquale Fazio equalised five minutes later.
