Roma resume Mahrez bid?

According to France Football, Leicester City will let Riyad Mahrez go in January for the right offer, so Roma are ready to try again.

The Giallorossi made no secret of their attempts to sign the Algeria international over the summer, but baulked at the €50m price-tag.

A final offer of €40m was tabled in August, but director of sport Monchi eventually gave up and opted for Sassuolo forward Gregoire Defrel instead.

Leicester man on Inter radar?

Inter are reportedly considering a January swoop for Leicester City defender Yohan Benalouane.

Tuttosport cites a report in The Sun, which claims Inter’s search for a centre-back to act as cover for Milan Skriniar and Miranda has taken them to Benalouane.

The 30-year-old is surplus to requirements at the King Power Stadium, having not made a first-team appearance all season.

However, he has plenty of Serie A experience after playing almost 100 times for Cesena, Parma and Atalanta.

Ranieri: ‘Italian football on the up’

Claudio Ranieri believes “the climb has begun” for Italian football, and his Nantes are “a team to be discovered”.

The former Juventus, Roma and Inter Coach is now working in France, so he gave something of an outsider’s perspective on Serie A in his interview with Gazzett dello Sport.

“It’s regaining prestige,” Ranieri insisted.

Leicester offered Ranieri return?

Claudio Ranieri is said to have turned down a return to Leicester, before they appointed Claude Puel.

The Nantes Coach won the Premier League with the Foxes in 2015-16, but was sacked last season after a poor run of results.

Today the Italian has given a long interview with Corriere dello Sport, which opens with the revelation that the English club reached out to Ranieri for a return when they sacked Craig Shakespeare.

However, the former Roma and Juventus boss is reported to have replied “no, thank you”.

Ranieri: ‘Nantes not like Leicester’

Claudio Ranieri says you can’t compare his Nantes side to Leicester as Paris Saint-Germain “can only lose” Ligue 1.

The Italian Coach guided the Foxes to a stunning Premier League title win, and after taking over at Nantes in the summer Les Canaris are fourth in the French top flight.

“I was the first to talk about an Italian Nantes,” Ranieri told Gazzetta dello Sport’s Extra Time.

Cambiassio reveals coaching plans

Inter legend Esteban Cambiasso has revealed he wants to go into coaching following his recent retirement from playing.

The 37-year-old opted to end his playing career in early September after his most recent club, Greek champions Olympiacos, did not renew his contract.

And speaking to Il Nuovo Calcio, the ex-Argentina midfielder said he views his transition from player to Coach as ‘natural.’

“I have always thought with the brain of a Coach, even when I was playing,” Cambiasso began.

‘Arsenal, Roma wanted Howedes’

Benedikt Howedes’ agent says Arsenal, Roma and Leicester City wanted his client before he joined Juventus.

The centre-back joined the Bianconeri the day before the transfer deadline last month, on loan from Schalke 04 with an option to buy next summer.

“When this new situation came up we had direct contact with [Juve sporting director Fabio] Paratici,” Volker Struth explained.

It is reported that Sampdoria are keen on signing Leicester City’s Islam Slimani.

The Blucerchiati are known to be in the hunt for new forwards following the departure of Patrik Schick to Roma late in the transfer window.

And according to Tuttosport, the Genoa club have made an enquiry as to the availability of the Algerian international.

The 29-year-old, who has been with the English Premier League club for just one year, formerly played for Sporting in Portugal.
