Fiorentina lose Montella

Fiorentina will be without Vincenzo Montella for their Serie A decider against Genoa after he was given a two-match ban.

The FIGC ruled on Tuesday that Montella addressed officials with a ‘threatening and intimidating’ attitude, using ‘insulting expressions’ three times and ‘violently punching an advertising board’ as he was sent off during Fiorentina’s 1-0 defeat to Parma on Sunday, which caused slight injury to a steward.

Montella: 'All going wrong for Viola'

Vincenzo Montella was furious with the referee after Fiorentina’s 1-0 defeat to Parma, but confessed his own players wasted chances.

There was tension after the final whistle, as Montella was sent off from the touchline for his protests, then punched an advertising backdrop as he stormed off, not realising there was a steward behind it.

The steward was medicated on the scene, but only has a slight bruise.

Montella: 'Fans are Fiorentina oxygen'

Vincenzo Montella begged Fiorentina fans to suspend their protest and support the team in a relegation battle with Parma. “They are like oxygen for us.”

Montella: 'Fiorentina are masochists'

Vincenzo Montella called on Fiorentina fans to stop their protest after a defeat to Milan, because “otherwise we’re masochists.”

The Viola suffered a fifth consecutive defeat, have scored one goal in their last six Serie A games and are without a win in 12 rounds.

“We don’t have the mental strength to play for 90 minutes, especially with the tense situation in the city. At the first sign of difficulty, we melt away and lose all the elements we need to play football.

Montella: Fiorentina need patience

Vincenzo Montella has called for patience at Fiorentina. “Tottenham Hotspur had six players playing for them from when we knocked them out...”

The Tuscan side welcome Milan to the Artemio Franchi tomorrow night and will be looking to halt a run of 13 games without a win - their worst run since the 1989-1990 season.

However, Montella noticed how six of Spurs’ players whom Fiorentina eliminated from the 2014-15 Europa League reached the Champions League Final on Wednesday.

Montella: Milan were a 'dream'

Fiorentina Coach Vincenzo Montella has revealed that he was a Milan fan growing up and ‘always dreamed’ of winning a trophy with them.

Montella coached Milan between 2016 and 2017, leading them to their last piece of silverware – the Supercoppa, courtesy of a penalties victory over Juventus.

“I supported Milan when I was a kid and I always dreamed of lifting a trophy with them,” he recalled at a Press conference for the Viola’s visit of the Rossoneri in Serie A on Saturday.

Montella needs time to take off

Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall asks is it too early to pass judgment on Vincenzo Montella’s second coming at Fiorentina?

All is not well in Florence and Vincenzo Montella knows it. His return to the Viola in April, on paper, looks like a disaster so far and defeat to Empoli seemed like proof of that. The Coach said he had complete trust in the squad and that he had arrived at the club to plan for the future. This may be the case, but recent performances have shown no real sign of his once-entertaining brand of football.
