Malago wants fans back 'as soon as possible'

CONI President Giovanni Malago claims the low TV ratings in Italy are due to the lack of people in the stands and hopes to see fans in the stadium before the season is over.

Serie A has been carried out behind closed doors since the resumption and Malago thinks it has affected the viewer numbers.

He spoke at the Educamp presentation and his words were picked up by TMW: “For months they have thought us to respect the indications of the Technical and Scientific Commission (CTS).

Eysseric out of Verona-Cagliari

Hellas Verona midfielder Valentin Eysseric picked up a muscular problem in training and is expected to miss Saturday’s match with Cagliari.

It is due to kick off on June 20 at 20.45 UK time (19.45 GMT).

According to reports, Eysseric interrupted his training session today with a muscular problem at the back of the right thigh.

He will need further tests over the next few days, but it’s widely believed Eysseric won’t recover in time for the Serie A encounter with Cagliari on June 20.

Minister: 'Serie A crowds possible in July'

Ministry of Health representative Sandra Zampa confirms there is ‘the possibility’ of allowing some fans back into Serie A stadiums by mid-July and reduce the quarantine for players.

Calcio returns this evening with the Coppa Italia semi-finals, as after Juventus-Milan, there will be Napoli-Inter tomorrow night, with Serie A due back on June 20.

Spadafora: 'I was angry'

Italy’s Minister of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora claims the resumption of football represents ‘an important signal’ for the country.

Serie A has set a date for the resumption of Serie A and will start again more than three months after the interruption of 2019-20 but Spadafora still crosses his fingers to avoid further complications down the line.

“It’s an important signal because the country is starting up again,” Spadafora told Tg5. “Sport and football become protagonists in this sense.

Spadafora: 'Serie A could start mid-June'

Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora has created even more confusion, insisting ‘Serie A could be confirmed if the contagion curve continues to drop, but we want to be sure the season can reach a conclusion too.’

The FIGC announced last night that all football competition in Italy was suspended until June 14, the day after the Lega Serie A had provisionally aimed to resume games.

Today, Minister for Sport Spadafora gave yet another version of the situation.

Parma: Two players positive for COVID-19

Parma announced two of their players have been isolated after testing positive for COVID-19 on one swab and negative on another.

A statement from the club confirmed that all members of the squad and staff – around 60 people – performed both double swabs and blood tests.

All the tests came back negative except for two players, who are asymptomatic and have been isolated.

Malagò: '99.9 per cent sure Serie A resumes on June 13'

CONI President Giovanni Malagò has claimed ‘it’s 99.9 per cent sure’ Serie A will start again on June 13.

The Lega Serie A announced a provisional date for the resumption of Serie A but the CTS and some medics have not been able to agree completely on the protocol.

Medics 'threaten to resign' over protocol

The return of Serie A is still far from certain, because the association of club medics warn ‘many are threatening to resign if they are considered legally responsible’ for players catching COVID-19.

The Government and the CTS (scientific committee) sent back the medical protocol for Serie A contact training with some changes required before it can begin on May 18.

Galliani: 'Football must resume'

Adriano Galliani has claimed ‘football will explode’ if it doesn’t return to the pitch and suggested the different European Leagues ‘need not end at the same time’.

The former Milan CEO has begged football to wait until due time and return to the pitch ‘in safe conditions’ after the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Monza chairman stressed that the European Leagues will all have different timelines and claimed it was futile to insist on ending the championships at the same time.
