Gianluca Sansone will become the first ever Italian player in Azerbaijan after flying in to sign for Neftci Baku.

It is an interesting career twist for the 31-year-old centre-forward, who is currently a free agent after terminating his contract with Serie B side Novara in January.

According to multiple sources including Sportitalia and the Gazzetta dello Sport, Sansone is already in Azerbaijan and will sign the contract to June 2020 after a medical this morning.

Conte: 'How Italy went to 4-2-4'

Antonio Conte trusts Italy can have their say at Euro 2016 and explains the “gradual” tactical evolution to 4-2-4.

Azzurri can build on Azerbaijan

Italy sealed Euro 2016 qualification with a win in Azerbaijan in which Luca Cetta saw some bright moments in an otherwise lacklustre display.

It’s time to prepare for a French summer. Italy have qualified for Euro 2016 thanks to a 3-1 win away to Azerbaijan, the most prolific victory of this campaign. The Azzurri netted more than two goals for the first time under Antonio Conte – Matteo Darmian’s strike equalling a mark not reached since the 2013 Confederations Cup.
