Belotti: ‘No problem with Torino’

Torino striker Andrea Belotti dismisses rumours of a rift with President Urbano Cairo as “absurd”.

This morning’s Tuttosport front page claimed there was a growing problem between the club and their star player, who has been linked with a move away.

There is a €100m release clause in Il Gallo’s contract, but it was suggested the situation at the club could see the Italian international sold for less.

“A freeze between myself and President Cairo?,” Belotti posted on his official Twitter page.

Cairo: 'Could've fired Miha earlier'

Torino patron Urbano Cairo admits he “could’ve fired Sinisa Mihajlovic earlier” and sees “confusion” in the race for a new FIGC President.

Mihajlovic was sacked following a Coppa Italia exit to Juventus earlier this month and Walter Mazzarri won on his debut.

Cairo: €100m cheap for Belotti

Torino President Urbano Cairo claims Andrea Belotti’s €100m release clause “will be low if he goes back” to scoring goals at a prolific rate.

Belotti stayed at Torino last summer, with no clubs prepared to meet Cairo’s €100m valuation of the striker, and the patron [pictured, right] believes Philippe Coutinho’s €160m transfer to Barcelona makes the Italy international relatively cheap.

“I’m happy to have kept him because it was a kind of pact, which he also made with our fans,” he told Rai Radio.

Toro: Okaka no, Borini yes?

Torino have cooled their interest in Watford striker Stefano Okaka but could switch their attentions to Milan’s Fabio Borini.

Okaka issued a come-and-get-me plea to Toro on Monday, but President Urbano Cairo admitted the 28-year-old probably “wasn’t for us”, given he would not be able to play alongside Andrea Belotti.

“Okaka is an important player in his position and should be signed as a starter,” he told Rai Radio.

Cairo: ‘Mazzarri a dream for Torino’

Torino President Urbano Cairo says appointing Walter Mazzarri is “a dream come true” as he’s been trying to get him since 2007.

The former Napoli Coach replaced Sinisa Mihajlovic yesterday, and was officially presented this morning.

“Welcome to our new Coach,” Cairo began the Press conference by saying.

“I’m no longer used to doing these Press conferences, because I haven’t sacked a Coach since 2011. Unfortunately we had to make this choice, and it’s never a nice thing.

Dear Urbano Cairo...

Earlier this season, Rob Gillman threw his hat into the ring for the Torino job, and he can't believe he's been overlooked in favour of Walter Mazzarri...

Dear Mr Cairo,

I am writing this letter to officially express my disappointment in not being considered for the role of Torino FC head Coach following the departure of Siniša Mihajlović. Given my 100 per cent record in job interviews, I feel that given the opportunity of an interview, it would have proved impossible to not give me the job, especially in light of my further achievements which I will now inform you of.

Cairo: Not happy with Miha

Torino President Urbano Cairo admits “I wasn’t happy with Sinisa Mihajlovic” and “expected more” from the Coach.

Mihajlovic was replaced by former Napoli, Inter and Watford boss Walter Mazzarri on Thursday, and Cairo explained the reasons behind his decision to sack the Serb.

“I wasn’t happy with the team’s results: they were too inconsistent,” he told Sportitalia.

Mihajlovic sacking expected today

Sinisa Mihajlovic is expected to be officially sacked by Torino later today, the first time since 2011 that Urbano Cairo has made a change during the season.

The Granata were beaten 2-0 by Juventus last night in the Coppa Italia, and reports began to emerge in the aftermath that the Serbian had been sacked.

Toro have managed only three wins in their last 17 competitive matches, along with eight draws and five losses.

Confirmation of Miha’s sacking is expected to arrive today, with Walter Mazzarri the early favourite to replace him.

Cairo regrets Toro draws

Torino President Urbano Cairo believes his side can still qualify for Europe but regrets their number of draws so far this season.

At the half-way point of the campaign, the Granata have lost just four times – only once more than Champions League-chasing duo Roma and Lazio.

However, 10 draws from their 19 matches have hindered Sinisa Mihajlovic’s team’s progress and given Cairo some cause for regret.

“We are there or thereabouts,” the Stadio Olimpico chief said after yet another stalemate with Genoa.

Too much expected of Torino

Sinisa Mihajlovic and his Granata players are accused of underperforming, but Richard Hall notes perhaps the expectations were set too high.

Sinisa Mihajlovic was in buoyant mood before his team lost to Napoli this weekend. He was quick to stress that whatever the result, there was no crisis in his team, regardless of the daily complaints on the front page of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport.
