Cairo: 'We'll keep Belotti'

Torino President Urbano Cairo said Andrea Belotti is not for sale and hopes to put coach Marco Giampaolo ‘in a position to do his best work’.

The Italy international has been linked with a move away from the Stadio Grande Torino, but patron Cairo insists the target man is not up for grabs.

“We’ll keep Belotti. It’s not up for discussion,” he told La Stampa.

But Cairo admitted that Armando Izzo could be on his way and maintains Torino will replace whoever leaves.

Torino President Urbano Cairo hails new coach Marco Giampaolo, admits he made a ‘mistake’ blocking Nicolas Nkoulou and insists his tenure has been positive.

Giampaolo was presented in a press conference this afternoon, in which Cairo also spoke.

“I had already wanted Giampaolo in 2007, but it wasn’t possible at the time, so we finally got to make it happen,” said the President.

“He’s a real teacher of football, someone who can help develop the talent of his players.”

Torino takeover bid announced

A conglomerate of local businessmen announced they are ready to stage a takeover bid to buy Torino from President Urbano Cairo.

The names of the people behind the plan are not known, but a press conference was held by consultants Giuseppe Pipicella, Massimo Scalari and Simone Servetti.

President Cairo is increasingly unpopular with fans and the local media, above all newspaper Tuttosport, who regularly complain he does not invest enough and shows a lack of ambition.

Defensive headache for Longo

Torino are closing in on their worst defensive record since patron Urbano Cairo took over and adding to their woes, Moreno Longo could be without both Armando Izzo and Lyanco against Hellas Verona.

The Corriere di Torino claims Longo have concerns at the back, as Izzo will miss the match against Verona, whilst Lyanco is in doubt.

Koffi Djidij has not impressed in recent weeks either and the Torino coach must sort out the defence to prevent setting negative records at the Grande Torino this term.

Cairo: 'Why should I sell Belotti?'

Torino President Urbano Cairo insists he has no reason to sell striker Andrea Belotti. “Why should I? I’ve rejected big money for him.”

Cairo famously slapped a €100m asking price on Belotti after his 28-goal return in 2016-17, which put off interested suitors.

The 26-year-old is again being linked with moves away this summer, but Cairo is standing by his valuation of the player.

“I’m not selling him, why should I?” he told Rai Radio.

Torino are reportedly preparing to offer Armando Izzo or Nicolas Nkoulou for Inter loanee Radja Nainggolan and won’t be willing to sell Andrea Belotti this summer.

Tuttosport claims the returning Belgian will most likely move again after spending this season back at Cagliari on loan.

The Rossoblu seem to have given up on bringing the 32-year-old on a permanent deal and Torino monitor the situation closely.
