De Canio: 'Nobody is safe!'

Gigi De Canio has warned Lecce and the other relegation candidates that “nobody is safe. We're all in this battle to the end, including Chievo.”

There are seven teams crammed in a five-point radius, plus Brescia who are a little further behind in penultimate place.

“At this stage of the season, nobody can try to make calculations, including Chievo and Bologna,” said the Lecce Coach ahead of today's encounter with the Flying Donkeys.

De Canio amazed by Lecce comeback

Gigi De Canio was astonished by Lecce's hunger as they fought back for a 3-3 draw with the last kick of the game.

“In other matches we had lost points in the final minutes, so pouring forward was a risky strategy,” he said of the thriller with Cagliari.

“We ran a big risk, but our capability was the key to avoid defeat in this match.”

The Salentini were trailing 3-1 on home turf at the 87th minute, but scored twice late on to snatch a point.

De Canio linked with West Ham job

Lecce Coach Luigi De Canio could be heading for the Premier League, as he has been linked with the West Ham job.

The tactician is struggling to keep the Salentini in Serie A, but has recorded impressive results this season against the likes of Milan, Juventus, Inter and Udinese.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb in Italy, De Canio has been targeted as the potential successor to Avram Grant.

He'd join the group of Italian managers in England, which currently include Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea and Roberto Mancini at Manchester City.

Lecce: 'We won't sit back for Inter'

Gigi De Canio is suffering from flu, so his assistant manager declared “there will be no barricades” against Inter.

The Coach was unable to make it to the pre-match Press conference ahead of tomorrow's big game against the Nerazzurri.

“We have prepared for this, knowing it will be a difficult game,” said assistant manager Roberto Rizzo.

“We are coming off two consecutive defeats, but the team is still in good shape and we're going to San Siro in order to do well.”

De Canio: 'Lecce had three penalties'

Lecce Coach Gigi De Canio was furious with the referee after their defeat to Roma. “We were denied at least three penalties.”

The Salentini had been able to cancel out Mirko Vucinic's opener with a goal from Guillermo Giacomazzi, but David Pizarro converted a last-minute spot-kick for the 2-1 result.

“We were denied at least three penalties, in my view,” slammed De Canio. “The referee put the whistle to his lips, but then didn't feel able to blow. You judge the incidents for yourselves.”

De Canio on a Lecce roll

Fresh from their triumph over Juventus, Gigi De Canio believes Lecce will beat Brescia. “We can stay in Serie A, one game at a time.”

The Salentini had seemed done for and their Coach ready for the sack at the start of 2011, but both made a remarkable recovery.

“This is an important match for both teams,” he said of today's relegation dogfight.

“It's only normal there will be tension or anxiety with regards to the result. The campaign is at a crossroads, where nobody feels entirely safe.

De Canio reshuffles Lecce

Lecce boss Gigi De Canio has seven players missing against Juventus on Sunday, but is still confident his men can get a result.

The Salentini have to do without the suspended Guillermo Giacomazzi, Ruben Olivera, Nelson Jeda and Gustavo, while Alberto Giuliatto, Edward Ofere and Nenad Tomovic are injured.

“It will really weigh on me that I won't be able to stand by my lads, because I know that I suffered another injustice,” said the Coach who has also been banned for insulting the referee.

De Canio: 'Milan not impossible to beat'

Gigi De Canio's Lecce were torn apart by Milan in the season opener, but he is confident they won't suffer the same fate tonight.

“There have been some changes in our squad from that day,” he said of the 4-0 thrashing.

“Back then we had to pay a certain price for our first game, as many of our players had never been in Serie A and needed time to adapt.

De Canio: 'We can survive this way'

Gigi De Canio's Lecce have taken four points off Lazio and Milan. “This is the way we can stay in Serie A.”

Last week's 2-1 victory at the Olimpico was followed up by holding the leaders to a 1-1 draw.

“Our first reaction after Zlatan Ibrahimovic's goal was simply to be stunned,” revealed the Coach.

“We complimented him on an amazing strike, then got worried and felt regret at going behind.

“We managed to get back on track to take a point off Milan. This is the way we can stay in Serie A.

Report: De Canio faces Lecce axe?

There are reports this could be the final game for Lecce Coach Gigi De Canio, as a former Inter legend is ready to take over.

De Canio had already offered his resignation earlier this season, but it was rejected by the club.

Recent results have not improved and Thursday's shock 1-0 home defeat to local rivals Bari was a bitter blow.

It's rumoured defeat to Lazio today will spell the end of De Canio's reign at the Stadio Via del Mare.

Options to take over include Gigi Cagni and former Inter legend Beppe Bergomi.
