Godin: 'Players most exposed'

Inter’s Diego Godin has hit out at Italian football authorities for their handling of the coronavirus pandemic. “We were exposed until the last moment.”

Serie A did not officially stop until March 9, when Italy went into full lockdown, with games continuing to be played behind closed doors before then.

Among those to be played behind closed doors was Inter’s 2-1 defeat to Juventus, which Godin claims possibly helped the spread of COVID-19.

Giroud: 'Inter were my priority'

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has revealed his “priority” was to join Inter in January and that Lazio “tried absolutely everything, even coming to London.”

Giroud seemed to be all set for a move to Serie A two months ago, with Inter and Lazio both keen, but Chelsea failed to bring in a replacement and he ended up staying at Stamford Bridge.

“In January, I saw myself far away from Chelsea,” the 33-year-old told Telefoot.

Mutu: 'Ferraris or Lamborghinis only'

Former Inter forward Adrian Mutu told about a regretful Panenka penalty against Angelo Peruzzi in training and why he couldn’t park close to the training ground.

The Romanian 41-year-old arrived in Italy 20 years ago but only lasted six months at the Nerazzurri before his move to Hellas Verona.

The former Juventus, Fiorentina and Parma star scored twice in his 14 games for Inter and recalls a funny story from the training ground, when he tried to lob Angelo Peruzzi from the penalty spot.

Nainggolan to pay for Barella?

Inter could send Radja Nainggolan to Cagliari permanently instead of paying their second instalment for Nicolo Barella, it is claimed.

Inter signed Barella from Cagliari last summer in a deal worth up to €41m, while Nainggolan returned to Sardinia on a dry loan.

As per Calciomercato.com, the Nerazzurri have paid €12m so far and owe €20-25m in the next few months.

However, the website reports that payment could be substituted by Nainggolan making a permanent transfer to Cagliari.

Bastoni: '10 years at Inter'

Alessandro Bastoni says he can see himself at Inter for the next 10 years, “with some trophies in the cabinet and maybe the captaincy.”

Bastoni returned to Inter last summer after a loan spell at Parma and has gradually broken into their first team, displacing the vastly-experienced Diego Godin at the back.

“At first I was scared, I was afraid of not being good enough for Inter,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It wasn’t because of my €31m price tag but rather the expectations of the fans and Conte.

The 2000-01 season saw Roma and Juventus compete for the Scudetto until the final day of the season, and the relegation places only decided with a play-off.

It was a season that saw Fabio Capello, Dino Zoff, Carlo Ancelotti, Arrigo Sacchi and Marcello Lippi all in charge of Serie A clubs at one point or another – and it was the year current Italy coach Roberto Mancini made his first moves as a trainer, too.

Marotta: 'Player prices will fall'

Inter chief Beppe Marotta believes player prices will fall and “there could be more swap deals” because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Market prices had spiked after Neymar’s €222m transfer to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in 2017 but, with the season ground to a halt as the world fights off COVID-19, clubs are suffering losses of earnings.

“Beyond the dates that are still to be determined, I think it will inevitably be a poorer market so there could be more swap deals,” Marotta told Tuttosport.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira, the Russian club are eager to tie him down on a long-term deal but “prefer” to spend less than the figure quoted.

Schira adds talks are ongoing between the two sides as they look to thrash out a compromise.
