Mancini: 'Italy always play to win'

Roberto Mancini sees similarities between Greece and Italy ahead of their Euro 2020 qualifier. “We must play to win, not be afraid of losing, and never again fail to qualify.”

The Azzurri continue their Euro 2020 qualifiers by visiting Greece on Saturday, then hosting Bosnia-Herzegovina on June 11.

“We can’t change the past, but of course everyone was disappointed not to qualify for the 2018 World Cup and it hadn’t happened in 60 years,” said the CT in his Press conference.

Bonucci: 'World Cup failure a black mark'

Leonardo Bonucci concedes failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup “is a black mark that will never be wiped away. It was catastrophic.”

The Azzurri host Portugal this evening at San Siro for the Nations League at 19.45 GMT.

This is the first time Italy have been in Milan since the 0-0 play-off draw with Sweden in November 2017, which ruled them out of the World Cup, 1-0 on aggregate.

Ochoa offered to Napoli?

Napoli have been offered the chance to buy Mexico international goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa for just €3m, according to TMW.

This is not the first time that they have been linked to the veteran shot-stopper, who has only one year left on his contract with Standard Liege.

The Partenopei already signed both Alex Meret and Orestis Karnezis from Udinese, but Meret fractured a bone in his arm during training and will be out of action until mid-September.

Wanda: 'Icardi Argentina's best 9'

Mauro Icardi’s wife Wanda Nara said Argentina had to sack Jorge Sampaoli and bring in “a Coach who won’t let himself be influenced.”

It was no surprise that Argentina fired Sampaoli after a dismal 2018 World Cup campaign, which saw them scrape through the group stage and go out in the Round of 16.

Inter hitman Icardi wasn’t even part of the tournament, despite finishing as joint Capocannoniere of Serie A.

The saddest summer

The 2018 World Cup has concluded and Italy fans like Giancarlo Rinaldi found it an oddly empty experience watching from the outside.

The family group chat buzzed only occasionally. We set it up to share our thoughts during the last European Nations and kept it alive for the joy and desperation that only following the Azzurri can provide. Throughout the World Cup in Russia, however, it sat as an all-too-often-silent reminder of Italy's failure to qualify for the first time in a generation or two.

World Cup: Croatia can't stop France

Croatia dominated the World Cup Final for long periods, with Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic on target, but France won the trophy 4-2.

This was the first ever Final for Croatia, while Les Bleus hadn’t been here since losing to Italy in 2006 and star striker Kylian Mbappé was born the same year as their last victory in 1998.

Perisic shook off a thigh injury to start with Inter teammate Marcelo Brozovic, Juve’s Mandzukic and Milan full-back Ivan Strinic. Blaise Matuidi of Juve again played in a more advanced role.

Borussia Dortmund saw their offer for Mario Mandzukic rejected outright by Juventus, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The report of their interest in the striker first emerged in German media with Focus.

However, the Bianconeri never even took it into consideration and assured Mandzukic is not for sale.

He has had a very impressive World Cup, helping his country reach the Final against France.

This also earned interest from the likes of Manchester United.

Materazzi: 'Croatia like Italy 2006'

Marco Materazzi praised Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic, as he believes Croatia “have something of Italy in 2006” ahead of the World Cup Final against France.

The most famous moment in Matrix’s career saw him being headbutted in the chest by Zinedine Zidane in the 2006 World Cup Final.

Until today, that was also the last time Les Bleus had been in a World Cup Final.
