Monchi wants Nzonzi reunion

Sevilla sporting director Monchi reportedly wants to bring Roma midfielder Steven Nzonzi back to Andalusia.

According to the Spanish football website El Gol Digital, the sporting director wants to reunite with the player that he signed last summer, while he was still employed by the Giallorossi.

The Frenchman failed to report back for a pre-season medical with the capital club and is pushing for a move away from Italy, with Olympique Lyonnais also reportedly interested as they are looking for a replacement for Tottenham-bound Tanguy Ndombele.

Roma start again. And again.

Following an underwhelming campaign and numerous changes on and off the field, Roma will be looking to start from scratch next season, writes Steven Moore.

This is not how President James Pallotta would have expected his season to go, especially after the splendid 2017-18 campaign that saw Roma finish in third place with 77 points and progress to the Champions League semi-finals.

A combination of erroneous decisions in the summer transfer window initiated their decline and Pallotta put the blame squarely on his director of sport Monchi, who quit for a return to Sevilla in March.

In an open letter on the official club website, Pallotta confirmed some parts of the expose in La Repubblica about Daniele De Rossi’s turbulent exit were true, specifically blaming Monchi for “lying” to the captain and getting their transfer strategy wrong.

There were multiple suggestions the tactician was in negotiations to take on the Sevilla bench for next season.

“With regards to Di Francesco, he will not come here,” Monchi told Estadio Deportivo at an event leading up to the Copa del Rey.

According to Calciomercato.com, Sevilla sporting director and former Roma man Monchi is a great admirer of the 24-year-old and has already contacted the player’s representatives.

Castillejo joined Milan from Villarreal last summer for a reported €25m and earns a €1.5m salary at San Siro.

Despite starting just eight Serie A games this season, his versatility has seen him used in a variety of roles by Coach Gennaro Gattuso.

Ranieri: 'Roma sold their spine'

Claudio Ranieri criticised Roma for their handling of the Daniele De Rossi situation, selling “the spine of the team” and warned they won’t be back in the Champions League for a while.

The Coach has already said he will leave his caretaker role in the summer and this is seemingly giving the lifelong Giallorossi fan the freedom to criticise his current employers.
