Monchi: 'Roma will be demanding'

Sevilla sporting director Monchi has claimed ‘it’s difficult to think about anything else’ than the match against Roma in the Europa League.

Sevilla sit fourth in La Liga, six points clear of Villarreal at fifth and with only three games remaining of the Spanish season.

Even if the Palanganas have yet to confirm their place in the Champions League next term, Monchi can’t take his eyes away from the match against his former club in the last 16 of the Europa League.

Nainggolan's destiny is at Roma

Radja Nainggolan confessed his biggest regret was leaving Roma for Inter, but Martin Mork assures there is still time to make it right at the Stadio Olimpico.

Tradition says that if you stand with your back to the Trevi Fountain and throw a coin into it, you are destined to return to that same spot in the Eternal City. Radja Nainggolan has probably closed his eyes and made that wish a thousand times since leaving Roma for Inter in the summer of 2018, but it’s not too late to fulfil that destiny after a journey of discovery.

Monchi's past & present

Roma face Sevilla in the Europa League last 16 this week but, as Livio Caferoglu recounts, it also marks a year since Monchi left to rejoin the Giallorossi’s upcoming opponents...

‘What could have been’ is a phrase that seems to resonate with Roma more than most clubs. On March 6 last year, the plug was pulled on the Monchi project at the Olimpico as the Lupi crashed out of the Champions League last 16, going out to an extra-time penalty against Porto. Just two days later, the sporting director parted company with Roma and ultimately sought home comforts, returning to Sevilla the following month.
