Falque: If Toro sort out defence…

Iago Falque believes Torino will have a good season “if we can do well at the back” after his last-gasp winner at Benevento.

Falque’s injury-time finish sealed a 1-0 win for Torino to push them up to fifth in Serie A, but the winger was more enthused with the Granata recording their second clean sheet in three games.

“Benevento had a good game, these matches are tough,” he told Torino Channel.

Last-gasp Toro take Benevento

Torino rode their luck on several occasions and thanked Salvatore Sirigu, but stunned Benevento in stoppages with Iago Falque.

Salvatore Sirigu was the busier of the two goalkeepers at the Stadio Vigorito.

However, while the hosts wasted several promising counter-attacks and scoring opportunities, the Granata forwards were more clinical.

Deep into injury time, Adem Ljajic sent Iago Falque clear with an inspired assist for the 1-0 victory.

'Milan wanted Belotti in Niang deal'

Torino director Gianluca Petrachi confirms Milan tried to use M’Baye Niang as a bargaining chip for Andrea Belotti, “but the offer was unsuitable.”

The two clubs did eventually do business, Niang joining the Granata on transfer deadline day after weeks of tense negotiations.

“It was a bit of a soap opera,” confessed Petrachi on Torino Channel.

“He always wanted to join us, partly because of the bond he has with Sinisa Mihajlovic, and he even turned down an offer from Sampdoria.

Games of the Season: Napoli 5-3 Torino

Week 17 saw Dries Mertens score four times, as Napoli came out on top in an eight goal thriller with Torino.

The Partenopei were looking to go above Milan into third, but were missing both Arkadiusz Milik and Kalidou Koulibaly.

It didn’t take long for Maurizio Sarri’s side to hit the front, as Mertens drilled the ball through a crowd of players after being set-up by Jose Callejon.

The little Belgian then won a penalty, having been floored by Antonio Barreca, and he stepped up to send Joe Hart the wrong way.
