Italy U21 play for the quarter-finals

Italy play Slovenia in the last match of Group B in the European Under-21 Championship and the fight for a place in the quarter-finals is completely open.

Paolo Nicolato’s men sit third in the table and must win against Slovenia, the last match in the group stage of this year’s competition.

The Azzurrini have their fate in their own hands with Spain currently top of Group B with four points, followed by Czech Republic and Italy with two each.

Gabbia: 'The injury slowed me down'

Milan defender Matteo Gabbia said the injury setback ‘slowed me down in a period when I was playing with continuity’.

The 21-year-old centre-back started the season well with the Rossoneri but after having missed three games due to coronavirus in October and November, he suffered a medial collateral ligament injury in December.

Gabbia has played seven times in Serie A this term and returned after six straight games on the bench in the 1-0 defeat against Napoli on March 14.

Italy U20 take U21's place against Ireland

Italy Under-21 will be replaced by the Under-20 national team for the UEFA U21 Championship qualifier against Republic of Ireland.

The Under-21 side will not play against Ireland tomorrow due to the seven positive cases of coronavirus in recent days, but the Federation have decided to still play the match.

Alberto Bolli’s Under-20 side will play the match against group leaders Ireland in Pisa.

Pescara: Bellanova has COVID

Pescara have officially announced Raoul Bellanova was one of the three Italy Under-21 players to test positive for coronavirus.

The club has released a statement to confirm the news on after Italy Under-21 found three new cases of COVID-19 yesterday.

“Raoul Bellanova, currently with the Under-21 national team, has tested positive for COVID-19,” the club wrote.

Gabbia has returned to Milan

Milan defender Matteo Gabbia returned to Italy on a ‘safe’ flight after testing positive for coronavirus.

Tuttosport reveals Gabbia returned to Milan from the trip with the Under-21 national team to Iceland and landed last night at Malpensa Airport.

He travelled with two others from Italy Under-21 who are infected, Reggina goalkeeper Alessandro Plizzarri and a member of the Azzurrini staff.

U21: Italy-Ireland kick-off moved

All today’s tests for the Italy Under-21 squad came back negative for COVID-19 after the Iceland game was postponed, but the Republic of Ireland kick-off changes.

The Azzurrini were stopped on their flight to Iceland by the local authorities after a series of positive COVID-19 tests between players and staff.

As a result, the European Under-21 Championship qualifier had to be postponed.

The squad returned to Tirrenia today and another round of swabs came back negative, so the outbreak has so far not spread any further.

U21: Azzurrini cleared to leave Iceland

Italy Under-21 players Matteo Gabbia and Alessandro Plizzari are reportedly being allowed to leave Iceland and travel back following their COVID-19 diagnosis.

The squad had flown in to Reykjavik, where they were due to play the European Under-21 Championship qualifier.

However, the game was postponed after two Azzurrini players tested positive for Coronavirus.

U21: Iceland-Italy postponed

Italy Under-21’s European Championship qualifier against Iceland has been postponed.

The match scheduled for 16.30 UK time today has been postponed after two players and a member of the Azzurrini staff tested positive for COVID-19.

The Icelandic Football Federation confirmed the decision through at statement on their official website.

“The U21 match is postponed due to contagion of COVID in the Italian group,” the statement read.

Milan: Gabbia has COVID-19

Milan have officially announced defender Matteo Gabbia has tested positive for coronavirus whilst on international duty with Italy Under-21.

The 20-year-old centre-back was preparing to play his fourth match for the Azzurrini in Iceland this week, but Milan have confirmed he has tested positive during the trip.

“AC Milan have been informed that Matteo Gabbia, currently with the Italy Under-21 national squad in Iceland, has tested positive for COVID-19,” a statement from the Rossoneri read.

Bastoni: 'I'm fine'

Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni has reassured fans he’s ‘fine and in isolation’ and hopes to be back as soon as possible.

The centre-back returns from the Italy Under-21 camp today, after testing positive for coronavirus earlier this week.

Inter must decide if he should stay in isolation at Appiano or at his own home and have confirmed the defender is asymptomatic.

Bastoni has sent a message on social media, reassuring fans he’s well, thanking them for the support.
