Official: Crotone sign Spolli

Serie B strugglers Crotone have officially signed veteran defender Nicolas Spolli from Genoa.

A statement on Crotone’s official website confirms Spolli has arrived on loan until the end of the season and that his move will be made permanent if they avoid a second successive relegation.

The 35-year-old has spent the majority of his career in Italy with Catania, Roma, Carpi and Chievo, before joining Genoa in the summer of 2017.

However, injuries and competition for places have limited him to just seven Serie A appearances this season.

Coppa: Orsolini inspires Bologna

Riccardo Orsolini was inspirational in Bologna’s 3-0 victory over Crotone, setting up a Coppa Italia Round of 16 tie with Juventus.

Federico Santander was out of sorts and missed a couple of early sitters, but Orsolini broke through just before half-time.

Andrea Poli went on the counter, sent Orsolini through and he needed two attempts to get the better of goalkeeper Alex Cordaz.

Orsolini created the second goal, floating a free kick on to the head of Diego Falcinelli at the near post.

“I don’t think this is a key week for the future,” Inzaghi insisted in his Press conference ahead of the Coppa Italia match with Crotone.

Udinese official: Velazquez out, Nicola in

Udinese have officially fired Coach Julio Velazquez and appointed Davide Nicola as his replacement.

Director of sport Daniele Pradè had confirmed after the defeat to Empoli on Sunday that the club would “take 24-48 hours to reflect.”

The Spanish tactician managed two wins, three draws and eight losses in all competition.

Recent form was particularly poor, picking up just one point in the last seven Serie A rounds.

Udinese to appoint Nicola

Udinese are reportedly in contract talks with Davide Nicola, with Julio Velazquez to be sacked.

It was reported last week that the Spaniard was under pressure, and the Zebrette were beaten 2-1 by Udinese at the weekend.

That put Velazquez on the brink, and calciomercato.com reports that he will be sacked later today.

Udinese are already in talks with Nicola, with the only stumbling block relating to the length of the contract.

Crotone: Stroppa out, Oddo in

Serie B side Crotone have sacked Coach Giovanni Stroppa and replaced him with Massimo Oddo.

Crotone only appointed Stroppa over the summer after their relegation from Serie A, but the former Italy midfielder has paid the price for just three wins from nine games.

Replacing him is Oddo, who has been out of work since taking Udinese on a 11-game losing run, leading to his dismissal in April.

Chievo three-point penalty confirmed

Chievo’s three-point penalty has been confirmed in the current Serie A season after separate appeals to reduce or increase it.

The penalty was inflicted over the summer for false accounting, as Chievo are accused of trading players with Cesena – now bankrupt – at vastly inflated prices to help balance the books.

Chievo had appealed to have the punishment reduced, while Crotone put forward their own request to increase it.

Today the Corte Federale d’Appello ruled that the three-point deduction would remain.
