Juventus are demanding, not dreaming

At least Juventus have finally admitted their ambitions out loud, but Kaustubh Pandey wonders if Andrea Pirlo is the man to make them a superclub.

Juventus desperately want to be seen as a superclub on the level of Real Madrid or Barcelona, to lift the Champions League and end that two-decade curse. At least President Andrea Agnelli admitted as much this time when sacking Maurizio Sarri, declaring out loud once and for all that no, the Scudetto is not the main objective of the season and European glory is not a dream. It is a target. Having said that, is Andrea Pirlo really the man to take them there?

Sacchi: 'Juve didn't share Sarri values'

Arrigo Sacchi maintains Maurizio Sarri at Juventus was always ‘Mission Impossible’ because ‘the directors and club always believed in different values’ to beautiful football.

Sarri was brought in to replace Max Allegri, who won five consecutive Serie A titles and reached the Champions League Final twice, to provide more creativity and entertainment.

However, he struggled to get his ideas across and was sacked after just one year, making way for debutant coach Andrea Pirlo.

Reports: Pirlo to be new Juventus coach

There are growing reports Andrea Pirlo will be announced as the new Juventus coach tonight or tomorrow, having sacked Maurizio Sarri.

Sky Sport Italia claim a decision could be made as early as tonight, at most tomorrow morning, a theory shared by the Corriere di Torino and Corriere della Sera.

According to Juventus reporter Gianluca Momblano, Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and others, Pirlo was spotted attending a meeting this evening at the Continassa headquarters.

Juventus fire Sarri, Paratici to follow?

Not only has Maurizio Sarri been sacked, but Chief Football Officer Fabio Paratici is also potentially on the chopping block at Juventus, claim Sky Sport Italia.

Sarri’s dismissal was announced this afternoon, with Mauricio Pochettino in pole position to replace him on the bench.

Reports: Juventus sack Sarri

Reports are growing that Maurizio Sarri’s time at Juventus is up, with a crisis meeting called, Mauricio Pochettino, Zinedine Zidane and Simone Inzaghi contacted.

Multiple sources now suggest the decision has been made and the coach informed, with a statement expected imminently.

Last night’s Champions League exit at the Round of 16 stage to Olympique Lyonnais proved the final straw for a campaign that has been consistently below expectations.

Zidane, Pochettino or Inzaghi for Juve?

Following the Champions League exit, Juventus are reportedly looking at replacements for Maurizio Sarri, including Zinedine Zidane, Mauricio Pochettino and Simone Inzaghi.

The Bianconeri crashed out of Europe’s premier competition at the Round of 16 phase, unable to overturn the 1-0 first leg defeat to Olympique Lyonnais.

They won 2-1 in Turin on Friday night, but it was not enough to avoid elimination on away goals.

Agnelli: 'Juve will evaluate everything'

Juventus President Andrea Agnelli backed his directors, coach Maurizio Sarri and Cristiano Ronaldo, but ‘the Champions League has to be an objective and we’ll take a few days to evaluate everything.’

The Bianconeri crashed out of the Champions League in the Round of 16, losing on away goals after a 2-2 aggregate draw with Olympique Lyonnais, a side that finished seventh in Ligue 1 this term.

Fassone: 'Juve leverage to win'

Former Milan CEO Marco Fassone has claimed Juventus have the upper hand on Napoli due to their ownership and infrastructure, claiming the Partenopei must build their own sports centre to compete in the long run.

Fassone spoke to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli and discussed the different leadership styles between the Azzurri patron Aurelio De Laurentiis and Bianconeri chief Andrea Agnelli.

“Juventus have the longest-running owner of our League,” Fassone told Radio Kiss Kiss. “They have an owner that will invest massively when he must do so.

No Juve party at Villar Perosa

Juventus have been forced to cancel their traditional party at Villar Perosa for the first time in 61 years.

The Bianconeri have officially announced the cancellation of the event through a letter sent by President Andrea Agnelli to the mayor of Villar Perosa.

“I inform you with much regret, since the conditions aren’t there this year, that you will not be able to hold the traditional ‘family party’ at the sports centre of Villar Perosa,” Agnelli wrote.

Serie A work to get fans back in July

As the coronavirus pandemic in Italy continues to ease, it’s reported Juventus President Andrea Agnelli proposed partial reopening of Serie A stadiums.

The Coppa Italia is due to return around June 13 with Serie A fixtures from June 20, but behind closed doors.

At the same time, theatres, cinemas and open-air concerts are going to begin slowly coming back to the Peninsula, which leads some to ask why football stadiums should be treated differently.
