Tavecchio: 'Fix existing stadiums'

Federation President Carlo Tavecchio wants Napoli, Milan, Inter and others to revamp stadiums rather than build new ones.

So far in Serie A, only Juventus, Sassuolo and Udinese have ownership of their stadiums, as all other clubs rent them from the local council.

Milan recently abandoned plans to build a new arena, while Napoli and the local council have battled for years over who will pay for refurbishment work at the Stadio San Paolo.

Tavecchio: ‘Closer Scudetto race’

FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio is glad the Scudetto race is “offering something different from the usual”.

Fiorentina are top of the pile, with Torino in third and Sassuolo the only unbeaten team in Serie A, and the Federation chief wouldn’t rule out a surprise winner.

“I’m pleased that the League is offering something different from the usual, without taking anything away from those who have won before,” Tavecchio told Gr Parlamento.

“It’s a more hard-fought tournament, with more teams challenging.

‘Malta match very important’

FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio describes tonight’s match between Italy and Malta as ‘very important’.

The Azzurri face the island nation tonight at Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence, looking to take a step closer to Euro 2016.

“It’s a very important match,” Tavecchio told Ansa, before responding to questions about poor ticket sales, with only 10,000 sold so far.

“There’s no cause for alarm. In addition to the stadium, matches featuring the national team can also be seen on television.

'Conte for Azzurri, win or lose'

FIGC director Carlo Tavecchio says Coach Antonio Conte can stay at the helm of the Azzurri, regardless of whether he wins or loses.

The triple Scudetto winner with Juventus has a contract with the national team that is due to expire after Euro 2016 and it's unclear yet whether he intends to renew it.

Speaking to Sky Sports after a meeting in Rome, Tavecchio said the decision came down to the Coach and that there was no problem on the federation's side.

‘Milan can rebuild Balotelli’

FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio hopes Milan can ‘rebuild’ Mario Balotelli when he arrives from Liverpool.

The forward is on the verge of completing a loan move to the Rossoneri, just 12 months after swapping San Siro for Anfield.

“He’s a lad who seems to have forgotten the value of suffering, of sacrifice,” Tavecchio told Mediaset at an event in Taormina.

‘Less foreigners, more young Italians’

Italian FA President Carlo Tavecchio believes Serie A clubs must put more faith in their own young players, rather than purchasing abroad.

Tavecchio was speaking at a Press conference in Taormina today and focused on a topic he has frequently spoken out about in the past.

“I refuse to believe that we continue to use players who come from all over the world without investing in our own youth system,” he said.

“On Sunday in Serie A I saw several foreigners play who would be good for Serie B or Lega Pro.

“We’re in a great moment of restructuring,” he said.

“I would be arrogant if I said that we will overcome the gap to other countries in terms of economy and infrastructure in a few years, but we are on the right track.
