Rincon raises funds for families

Torino and Venezuela midfielder Tomas Rincon has launched a funding initiative to raise money for people left unemployed during the coronavirus lockdown, donating €1,500 himself.

While there are calls for players to dock their pay in order to help clubs stay afloat, Rincon is taking a personal approach to the crisis.

“I am trying to find different ways to help a country that welcomed me like a son from the first day I arrived here,” wrote the Venezuela international on Instagram.

Chancellor extends with Brescia

Brescia have activated their option to extend defender Jhon Chancellor’s contract until June 2022.

The centre-back turned 28 yesterday and joined the club from Al-Ahli in the summer of 2019.

He has impressed at the Stadio Rigamonti, even scoring a goal in his 14 Serie A appearances.

Brescia released a statement confirming they have activated the option to extend his contract to June 2022.

Chancellor is a Venezuela international with 17 senior caps.

Chancellor flies in for Brescia

Venezuela international defender Jhon Chancellor has arrived in Italy to complete his Brescia transfer.

The 27-year-old centre-back had joined Al Ahli in February from Anzhi Makhachkala.

According to Sky Sport Italia, he flew in today and will undergo his medical tomorrow.

Chancellor caught the eye of Brescia President Massimo Cellino during Venezuela’s recent Copa America run to the quarter-finals.

His strengths are mainly in the air due to a height of 1.97m (just under 6ft 6in).

Genoa agree Hurtado fee

Gimnasia La Plata have accepted an offer from Genoa for Venezuelan forward Jan Hurtado, but Boca Juniors are ‘optimistic’.

Gimnasia announced on Tuesday evening a fee had been agreed and that Genoa had permission to negotiate personal terms with the player.

However, Boca sporting director Nicolas Burdisso made it clear his club were still in the running for the 19-year-old.

“Hurtado’s situation has slowed down due to an issue unrelated to the two clubs,” said the former Roma defender.

Video: De Paul pigeon-toed

Udinese man Rodrigo De Paul made a big impression during the Copa America clash with Venezuela, as the Argentina international was tackled by a pigeon.

The creative midfielder had a breakout season in Serie A, which earned him a place in the Seleccion at the tournament this summer.

He impressed in last night’s 2-0 win over Venezuela, with a goal from Inter hitman Lautaro Martinez, which put Argentina through to the semi-final against Brazil.

Samp hope to get Hurtado deal

Sampdoria will reportedly meet for Gimnasia La Plata striker Jan Hurtado next week, while Genoa and Atalanta are also interested in the Venezuelan.

According to Sportitalia’s Alfredo Pedulla, the Blucerchiati have been long-time admirers of the teenager and will hold a meeting with his agent in the coming days to discuss the possibility of a move.

The Venezuela U20 international joined the Argentinian Primera Division side last summer and scored twice in 17 league games this season.

Argentina rely on Lautaro again

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez was again decisive, as he scored in Argentina’s 2-0 win over Venezuela to book a Copa America semi-final against Brazil.

The 21-year-old forward has been the breakout star of he tournament and confirmed why he was chosen rather than Nerazzurri teammate Mauro Icardi, pushing Juventus man Paulo Dybala on to the bench.

In the opening minutes of tonight’s game, Sergio Aguero’s wayward strike from a corner found Lautaro Martinez, who redirected it into the net from six yards with a cheeky back-heel flick.

Sampdoria talks for Hurtado

Sampdoria are reportedly in talks to purchase Venezuela international striker Jan Hurtado from Gimnasia La Plata.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the offer on the table for the 19-year-old is around €2m, whereas the asking price is just over €3m.

Negotiations are continuing to whittle down the details and reach an agreement.

The centre-forward has scored two goals in 17 Primera Division games so far this season.

Despite only turning 19 in March, Hurtado already has one senior cap for Venezuela.

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez was in the starting XI for Argentina, alongside returning Leo Messi, in a friendly with Venezuela in Madrid.

Although ‘Toro’ was on target with a counter-attacking goal, it was Venezuela who emerged with a surprise 3-1 victory.

Lautaro Martinez partners Messi

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez will start alongside Leo Messi in Argentina’s friendly with Venezuela, confirmed Coach Lionel Scaloni.

The 21-year-old forward scored seven goals in 11 caps for his country at Under-20 level.

He already has four senior appearances under his belt, scoring one goal.

This game marks the return to the Seleccion of Messi, who had taken a Sabbatical after the 2018 World Cup.
