Inter move for Herrera?

Inter are reportedly ready to make a move for Porto midfielder Hector Herrera, whose contract expires next summer.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter have switched midfield targets to Herrera after missing out on Luka Modric and Arturo Vidal.

The newspaper explains the Mexican has long been on the radar of Nerazzurri sporting director Piero Ausilio and could play in the Champions League after UEFA scrapped the cup-tied rule.

Furthermore, Porto could be forced to part with the player as early as January if no new deal is agreed before then.

There is an agreement in principle between the two parties, though the midfielder can’t officially sign until January.

Premier League push for Herrera

Roma and Inter face strong competition from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for FC Porto midfielder Hector Herrera.

A bidding war is breaking out after he failed to agree a new contract with the Portuguese club, but a January sale seems unlikely.

Nonetheless, RAI Sport claim that Premier League outfits Arsenal and Spurs have already dived in with big offers both to Porto and for the Mexico international’s salary.

Roma go for Herrera

Roma are reportedly pushing to sign Porto’s Hector Herrera, who they want to bring to Italy in January.

The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season, and has been linked with several European clubs.

He is free to negotiate with other teams from January, and today’s Corriere dello Sport states that Giallorossi sporting director Monchi has been tracking him for some time.

Now President James Pallotta has given the go-ahead to move for Herrera, with intermediary Claudio Vigorelli working to beat off competition from Arsenal.

‘Herrera not leaving in January’

Hector Herrera’s agent has warned Inter and Roma that the midfielder will not leave Porto in January.

Herrera’s expiring status had reportedly alerted Inter and Roma to his signature, but Gabriel Moraes made it clear the Mexican would at least honour his contract with Porto.

“He won’t leave Porto this season, he wants to respect his contract until it expires,” he told O Jogo.

“There’s been some contact, but no-one was able to reach an agreement with Porto and Hector.

Arsenal join Herrera race

Roma and Inter face competition from Arsenal in the race for FC Porto and Mexico international Hector Herrera.

The 28-year-old’s contract is running down, which would significantly lower his €40m price-tag.

In Serie A, he is of interest to Roma and Inter, while Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring the situation.

According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, Arsenal have now joined the race for the man with 70 senior caps for Mexico.

Roma plan Herrera swoop

Roma are preparing a cut-price €15m January approach for FC Porto captain Hector Herrera.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, they view the 28-year-old Mexico international as an ideal replacement for Kevin Strootman.

Fans were furious when Strootman was sold to Olympique Marseille in late August, as there was no chance to bring in a new face.

Herrera has a release clause set at €40m, which has put Roma off before, but his contract is due to expire in June 2019.

Agent: ‘Herrera only for €40m’

Hector Herrera’s agent says the Porto midfielder will only join Inter or Roma if they pay his €40m release clause.

The Mexican midfielder has been linked to both Serie A sides this summer, with the suggestion that the Giallorossi will look to sign him on a pre-contract deal in January.

His Porto contract expires on June 30, so it has even been suggested he’d be available for a reduced fee this summer.

“He can go if someone pays his release clause,” Matias Bunge shrugged, speaking to LaRoma24.it.

Inter target Herrera to cost €20m

Inter have been told they will need to pay €20m to sign midfielder Hector Herrera from Porto.

The Mexican, who represented his country at this summer’s World Cup, has just one year remaining on his contract with the Portuguese champions.

However, with the 28-year-old looking highly unlikely to sign a new deal at the Estadio do Dragao, his current club risk losing him for nothing next summer.

As such, Gazzetta dello Sport reports that a fee of around €20m will be enough to sign Herrera.
