Serie B: Abascal new Ascoli coach

Serie B side Ascoli have officially appointed 31-year-old Guillermo Abascal as their new coach after Roberto Stellone left by mutual consent.

Stellone had already effectively walked out in April, having only taken the job on February 2 and overseeing just five games before the lockdown.

Abascal has one game under his belt this season, taking on the caretaker role for the 3-0 victory over Livorno on February 1 after Paolo Zanetti was fired, before Stellone’s arrival.

Football Italia calcio quiz - Serie A 2005-06

Think you know your Capocannoniere from your catenaccio? Test your Serie A knowledge with Football Italia’s calcio quiz, 2005-06 edition!

The 2005-06 Serie A season will ultimately be remembered for one thing: Calciopoli. The investigation exposed a web of contacts and undue influence, with Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi sitting at the centre of it.

Calciopoli only came to light in May 2006, at a time when Juve should have been celebrating the Scudetto. Instead they were relegated to Serie B and had two titles stripped from their record, with the fallout from that decision still causing controversy today.

Serie B: Ascoli defend Stellone sacking

Ascoli President Massimo Pulcinelli defends his decision to sack coach Roberto Stellone during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown. “We have no revenue.”

The coach was dismissed earlier this week with a statement suggesting he had been asked to take a significant pay cut, they could not reach an agreement, so he was dismissed.

“What we have to understand is that the central problem here is COVID-19,” President Pulcinelli told the Corriere dello Sport.
